The Sanctuary at Kiawah Island Golf Resort

The Sanctuary at Kiawah Island Golf Resort Rating: 4.0 Pearls

This large seaside resort and golf course provides an opulent getaway in the style of a historical southern estate. It is situated on Kiawah, a barrier island 15 miles south of Charleston, South Carolina. The 90-hole golf course attracts a large number of sports enthusiasts, many of whom bring their families along. The resort offers elegant hotel rooms, independent villas, and freestanding rental homes. There are a large number of creative family activities and events organized specifically for teens.
Main Street Inn & Spa

Main Street Inn & Spa Rating: 3.5 Pearls

Main Street Inn & Spa is easily one of the most romantic and beautiful B&Bs in Hilton Head. Located at the edge of the lush Hilton Head Plantation, the stately Spanish-Colonial-style building is surrounded by immaculately manicured grounds dotted with tiered fountains. The luxurious 33 large rooms feature elegant colonial decor with homey, vintage touches, and beautiful bathrooms that open to private courtyards or balconies (the tiny tube TVs are disappointing, though). There are some great freebies such as Wi-Fi, parking, evening wine, and breakfast. It's ideal for those seeking a bit of reprieve, and exudes relaxation -- especially with pampering spa treatments, and the serene pool area, which is a peaceful sanctuary surrounded by towering trees and trickling fountains. The pool is narrow, though, and at least four feet deep all around, so it's not ideal for little ones. But overall, this isn't really the place for families anyway.
City Loft Hotel

City Loft Hotel Rating: 3.5 Pearls

The 23-room upper-middle-range, City Loft Hotel is a pet-friendly hotel near downtown Beaufort, within walking distance of historical sites, restaurants, and shops. Modern rooms come with iPod docks, Sealy Plush beds, mini-fridges with free bottled water, and bathrobes. Bathrooms are gorgeous and have glassed-in rainfall showers and large soaking tubs. City Java & News serves American dishes for breakfast and lunch and gets good reviews. There's also a fitness center with a great selection of equipment along with steam showers and personal training. Wi-Fi and parking are included, but note that there are no elevators at the property and walls are thin.
HarbourSide III at Shelter Cove Harbour

HarbourSide III at Shelter Cove Harbour Rating: 3.0 Pearls

The gated HarbourSide III has an apartment-like feel with one-, two-, and three-bedroom condos, all equipped with full kitchens. Most condos have harbor views, but the decor leaves a bit to be desired, especially in the bedrooms where shiny bedspreads look shabby. Perks such as free parking and free Wi-Fi are nice, and families enjoy the pool, but the beach is a drive or bike ride away (the hotel provides a free shuttle). Still, many travelers appreciate its proximity to numerous restaurants.
