Shores of Panama by Oaseas Resorts

Shores of Panama by Oaseas Resorts Rating: 3.5 Pearls

As the name hints, the Shores of Panama by Oaseas Resorts sits right on the lovely white sands of Panama City Beach. Each of the 796 rooms offers balconies with beautiful ocean views, a full-size kitchen, and washer/dryer. A huge pool deck features a sprawling free-form pool and tall tropical palm trees, providing a tranquil feel despite the resort's size. There are special activities here for kids including face painting, movie nights, and Rock Band tournaments. The fitness center is modern, if a bit dark, with cardio machines featuring individual TVs, and there's a full-service spa. But there are hidden cleaning fees associated with rentals, and the decor and maintenance of units varies widely; guests may end up with a dated, worn condo.
Cabana Cay by Oaseas Resorts

Cabana Cay by Oaseas Resorts Rating: 3.5 Pearls

Cabana Cay is a bare basics condo-style resort in Panama City. The pool and outdoor spaces are large and attractive, but the view of the Gulf is interrupted by unsightly industrial space and another resort property. Cabana Cay lacks features like a lifeguard and a restaurant or pool bar. The condo scheme means that service is on the scarce side, but units do have full kitchens and washers and dryers. This basic but adequate resort is best for families or couples looking for value over service and a decent jumping-off point for the attractions of the area.
Crowne Plaza Hotel Pensacola Grand

Crowne Plaza Hotel Pensacola Grand Rating: 3.5 Pearls

The 210-room Crowne Plaza at Grand Boulevard is located in a restored train depot from 1912, and the interior reflects this history, featuring dark mahogany moldings, brick walls, a grand chandelier, and plenty of natural light from skylights. Despite these details, the overall feel is definitely that of a mid-range property. Rooms have generic decor, but floor-to-ceiling windows and white linens make them feel bright and fresh. Amenities include a guest library, fitness center, and two restaurants, but some guests complain about train noise and lack of direct beach access. The business center, and the downtown Pensacola location near both the Civic center and the airport, appeal to business travelers.
Majestic Beach Towers

Majestic Beach Towers Rating: 3.5 Pearls

This 25-story upper-mid-range high-rise, with its many amenities and spectacular views, could be a good choice for active families with children. Room prices are comparable for the area, but more than a few guests have complained about unsatisfactory housekeeping in the common areas. As with any condo property, units might vary in decor and amenities, but all (except studios) are large with full kitchens and balconies. Numerous pools and direct beach access are highlights.
Emerald Beach Resort

Emerald Beach Resort Rating: 3.5 Pearls

Emerald Beach is one of Panama City's high-rise beach resorts. This condo property shares common spaces with the Wyndham, which is a bit unorthodox, but the pools are big with plenty of lounge space. Condo units have full kitchens, washer/dryers, and dishwashers, but decor can vary wildly as some units are privately owned. The upper floor Sky Bar is a unique feature in the area, offering nightlife including music performances, karaoke night, and football games on TV. While the resort has some strict rules -- like no coolers or drinks by the pool -- the beach is beautiful and condos offer big balconies with Gulf views.
Sterling Beach

Sterling Beach Rating: 3.5 Pearls

Sterling Beach sits on five acres of manicured Gulf-front land in Panama City Beach. Each of its 92 condos -- some of which can sleep up to 12 people -- are incredibly spacious and outfitted with a kitchen, washer/dryer, free Wi-Fi, and DVD players. While only some units have amazing floor-to-ceiling windows, all have sweeping ocean views. Decor ranges from classic and modern to kitschy and island-themed, all depending on the condo owner. The resort offers 300 feet of private beach, free chairs, and a huge outdoor pool that is heated seasonally.
La Quinta Inn & Suites Panama City Beach Pier Park

La Quinta Inn & Suites Panama City Beach Pier Park Rating: 3.0 Pearls

The 90-room Quinta Inn is a great value hotel in Panama City Beach -- for visitors who don't mind the 10-minute walk to the sand (which involved crossing a busy street). Room decor is basic but cheery with baby blue accent walls, colorful, patterned curtains, and modern tech features such as flat-screen TVs and free Wi-Fi. All rooms also have work desks, mini-fridges, and coffeemakers (which are oddly placed in the bathrooms). And the freebies at this hotel are extensive, including free breakfast, free parking, and free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel. In addition, pets are allowed, and there's a nearby dog park. Also on offer: laundry facilities, a convenience store, a fitness center, a business center, and an outdoor pool and Jacuzzi. All are adequate but unexceptional; the fitness center is cramped, with only three cardio machines, and the pool, though well-kept, looks out over the parking lot. Nonetheless, this hotel is a solid budget-friendly option.
Holiday Inn Pensacola-N Davis Hwy

Holiday Inn Pensacola-N Davis Hwy Rating: 3.0 Pearls

This trendy Holiday Inn may not stray far from the ordinary, but it does provide a contemporary, comfortable place to stay. The lobby is furnished with eclectic textiles and artwork, a big flat-screen TV, and decorative fireplace. Modern furniture and vibrant colors make the hotel feel more upscale than some chains. Each of the 114 rooms features a colorful accent wall, and big, comfortable beds with crisp white linens, but generic bathrooms with shower/tub combos. Amenities include a fitness center, free Wi-Fi, and an outdoor pool. This Holiday Inn is a great value pick for travelers looking for close proximity to the airport rather than the beaches.
Holiday Surf & Racquet Club

Holiday Surf & Racquet Club Rating: 3.0 Pearls

While it seems par for the course with condo accommodation in the area, Holiday Surf and Racquet Club's outdated decor looks as if it could belong in the home of someone's retired Floridian grandparents. However, the 86 large, individually decorated and updated (or not) units are perfect for long stays, privacy-seeking couples, young groups of friends, or families. Full kitchens, personal screened-in patios, and non-existent room service give guests maximum privacy and self-sufficiency. Direct access to sugar sand beach and gulf waters, on-site activities, and close proximity to local attractions ensure guests have plenty to do during their stays.
Courtyard Sandestin at Grand Boulevard

Courtyard Sandestin at Grand Boulevard Rating: 3.0 Pearls

The Courtyard Sandestin at Grand Boulevard lives up to the Marriott brand's reputation for efficiency and convenience. This 174-room hotel offers a lobby bar, mini market, big outdoor pool, and (average) fitness center. Rooms are spacious, with generous bathrooms, although decor is generally dated and bathroom fixtures are showing their age. Despite some guest complaints about these cosmetic features, rooms do have flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, and free Wi-Fi. The location at the edge of another resort means guests have easy access to the Sandestin Resort golf courses, day spa, tennis courts, shopping, and more, and Miramar Beach is a short drive away.
