High Peaks Resort

High Peaks Resort Rating: 4.0 Pearls

Located in the heart of Lake Placid mere moments from all of Main Street's offerings, this 133-room lakefront resort manages to feel both central and secluded at the same time. Most rooms offer scenic views over Mirror Lake (don't miss the stunning sunrises), as well as modern amenities and noteworthy bathrooms compared to neighboring properties. Downtown Lake Placid is steps away with plenty of shopping, restaurants and cafes -- and the Olympic Center, site of the 1980 Olympics, is a mere four blocks away. Of course, there's plenty to keep guests occupied on-site, including the Aveda Concept Salon and Spa, four pools (two indoor and two outdoor), a lakefront area with free use of kayaks, and a modern fitness center overlooking the pool courtyard. Guests at the resort's less-expensive sister property, the Lakeview Motor Inn, have full access to the amenities here, so public areas like the pools and lakefront can get a bit crowded.

Crowne Plaza Resort & Golf Club Lake Placid

Crowne Plaza Resort & Golf Club Lake Placid Rating: 3.5 Pearls

This comfortable resort in Lake Placid stands out from other hotels bearing the same Crowne Plaza name. The hilltop setting takes advantage of beautiful lake and mountain views, and it also owns and operates the Lake Placid Club, which includes 45-holes of golf, a private beach on Mirror Lake, tennis courts and cross country ski rentals. There are 249 rooms, suites and chalets to choose from, as well as four restaurants and an English-style bar. Accommodations are clean and cozy, especially in the Adirondack wing where most are equipped with large balconies and gas fireplaces.

Lakeview Motor Inn

Lakeview Motor Inn Rating: 3.5 Pearls

This 1980s mid-range hotel is priced lower than its High Peaks Resort neighbor, but because they share the same owner, guests are able to use amenities for both. Though bathrooms are small, the actual rooms are spacious and come with view-oriented balconies, patios or bay windows. Beds are dressed in modern white linens and duvets, but the worn room furniture is probably leftover from its Hilton predecessor days, built for the 1980 Winter Olympics.

Courtyard by Marriott Lake Placid

Courtyard by Marriott Lake Placid Rating: 3.0 Pearls

The Courtyard by Marriott, which opened in 2007, is one of the newer hotels in the Lake Placid area. Furnishings and decor in the 96 rooms and suites are comfortable and basic (standard modern-style for a chain hotel), and amenities include flat-screen TVs, ergonomic chairs, and free Wi-Fi. The location on the main road into town is not really pedestrian-friendly, per se, but it's only a short drive to Mirror Lake, shops, and restaurants. A fireplace and pub keep the lobby cozy, but if you are seeking great views synonymous with Lake Placid, then you’ll have to leave the hotel to find them.

Are we missing a hotel you love? We are busy adding more hotels to Oyster every day. In fact, in this year alone we have added over 2,000 new hotels.

Because we visit each hotel personally, it's not an overnight process - but the results are worth it.
