Lake House

Lake House Rating: 3.5 Pearls

This 1980s mid-range hotel is priced lower than its High Peaks Resort neighbor, but because they share the same owner, guests are able to use amenities for both. Though bathrooms are small, the actual rooms are spacious and come with view-oriented balconies, patios or bay windows. Beds are dressed in modern white linens and duvets, but the worn room furniture is probably leftover from its Hilton predecessor days, built for the 1980 Winter Olympics.
Golden Arrow Lakeside Resort

Golden Arrow Lakeside Resort Rating: 3.5 Pearls

Location is key at this reasonably priced, 165-room property, which has been family-run since 1974. While other hotels in downtown Lake Placid sit across the street, eco-friendly Golden Arrow has direct water views from the lobby and many of its rooms. Renovations are ongoing, but all rooms have Keurig coffeemakers, mini-fridges, and microwaves; some are equipped with fireplaces, whirlpool tubs, and/or kitchens. Generations restaurant serves all three meals and has an attached bar serving local beer and infused vodkas. (There’s a charming retail area attached to the hotel for take-away espresso and wine.) Pets are welcome with a set of rules, and water sports, parking, and Wi-Fi are free of charge.
Courtyard by Marriott Lake Placid

Courtyard by Marriott Lake Placid Rating: 3.0 Pearls

The Courtyard by Marriott, which opened in 2007, is one of the newer hotels in the Lake Placid area. Furnishings and decor in the 96 rooms and suites are comfortable and basic (standard modern-style for a chain hotel), and amenities include flat-screen TVs, ergonomic chairs, and free Wi-Fi. The location on the main road into town is not really pedestrian-friendly, per se, but it's only a short drive to Mirror Lake, shops, and restaurants. A fireplace and pub keep the lobby cozy, but if you are seeking great views synonymous with Lake Placid, then you’ll have to leave the hotel to find them.
Best Western Adirondack Inn

Best Western Adirondack Inn Rating: 2.0 Pearls

This alpine-style Best Western has a great location across from the Olympic Center and blocks from downtown Lake Placid and Mirror Lake beach. Rooms are clean, but overall this self-proclaimed "rustic" hotel is in need of some renovations. Most have outdoor balconies and chairs, and some offer mountain and partial-lake views. Free breakfast and Wi-Fi are added bonuses at this family-run hotel that's one of the more budget-friendly options in town.
