The Ritz-Carlton, Lake Tahoe

The Ritz-Carlton, Lake Tahoe Rating: 5.0 Pearls

The Ritz-Carlton, Lake Tahoe is a five-pearl full-service resort in the mountains above Northstar-at-Tahoe ski resort. Along with luxe rooms, a huge spa, and fine dining, the Ritz-Carlton offers ski-in/ski-out access to the slopes and many other recreational activities -- including multiple outdoor pools and Jacuzzis that are open year-round. Fees abound, however, unlike at the Resort at Squaw Creek, which offers lovely rooms with no fees at a lower price point.
Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe Resort, Spa and Casino

Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe Resort, Spa and Casino Rating: 4.0 Pearls

The massive and upscale Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe Resort, Spa and Casino is centrally located near various ski areas, and owns what is supposedly the largest private hotel beach in the area, making it a good choice for active families. The hotel is even larger than it looks from the entrance, spreading across roughly a couple dozen acres in low-lying buildings and individual cottage units. It is situated directly on Lake Tahoe amongst pine trees, and maintains a lodge-like feel through flagstone and wood accents in almost all of its common areas. The 421 contemporary rooms here are similarly decorated, and receive high marks from many guests for their attractiveness, comfort, and modern fixtures. Note that there are extra charges, like the package fee for the Internet and use of the fitness center. Similarly priced Northstar-at-Tahoe Resort is a good option for winter activities like skiing and ice skating, while the Hyatt Regency offers more summer lake fun.
Tahoe Mountain Resorts Lodging

Tahoe Mountain Resorts Lodging Rating: 4.0 Pearls

The four-pearl Tahoe Mountain Resorts Lodging offers direct access to Northstar-at-Tahoe ski resort, with plenty of nearby upscale shopping and dining found via cobblestone streets. Housed in separate lodges in the quaint Village at Northstar, the spacious, luxe rooms include kitchens, surround-sound TV systems, and fireplaces. A heated pool, underground parking, and the beautiful mountain setting are added bonuses. However, it can be difficult to find a room here in winter, and rates may increase depending on availability.
Resort at Squaw Creek

Resort at Squaw Creek Rating: 4.0 Pearls

The Resort at Squaw Creek is one of the biggest resorts in Squaw Valley, with more than 400 rooms and a services and amenity offering that is easily among the most comprehensive in all of Tahoe. Its beautiful location means fine views of the mountains and valley, whether guests are playing golf, swimming, dog-sledding, ice skating, eating at one of the five restaurants, or simply gazing from the spacious rooms. A ski lift transports guests to Squaw Valley for hitting the slopes, and the extensive list of amenities and dining options on-site means guests won't have to venture far from the resort -- in fact, they're like to return year after year just to experience all the property has to offer.
Northstar Lodge, Hyatt Residence Club

Northstar Lodge, Hyatt Residence Club Rating: 4.0 Pearls

The Northstar Lodge, Hyatt Residence Club is a 15-minute drive from Lake Tahoe, and located within walking distance of North Village gondola. The hotel is an excellent alternative to area properties because of its large and tricked out apartment-style guest rooms, and its close proximity to local attractions. The hotel is a timeshare property that's open to guests so villas are equipped with amenities suitable for longer visits, including washer and dryers and an extensive array of food preparation implements, though these may vary slightly from room to room. Outdoor fireplaces are great features. The clean and elegant fitness building is next door to the hotel, and there is a pool with swimming lanes and adjacent whirlpool with gorgeous surrounding views. Note that there are no restaurants or bars on the property.
Hyatt High Sierra Lodge

Hyatt High Sierra Lodge Rating: 3.5 Pearls

This upscale hotel in the Incline Village ski community is set slightly apart from, but is still convenient to, all of the commercial offerings of the town. Situated among pine trees about a five-to-10-minute walk from North Lake Tahoe, the hotel is a good choice for travelers seeking a quiet stay. The property’s 60 residential-style rooms are primarily available as time-shares, but can be rented for shorter stays. Most of the amenities are situated in the adjacent Hyatt Lake Tahoe hotel; these include water sport rentals on the lake, a small pool with a hot tub, a casino, a spa, and a few restaurants.
PlumpJack Squaw Valley Inn

PlumpJack Squaw Valley Inn Rating: 3.5 Pearls

Built for the 1960 Winter Olympic delegation, this upscale village-style property is particularly appreciated for its bucolic grounds, which are crisscrossed by stone pathways and interspersed with adirondack chairs. The 61 rooms are available in a variety of configurations and sizes, some with a kitchenette, all with breakfast included in the price. The hotel is situated within Squaw Village, and offers ski-in and ski-out accessibility. Some guests have mentioned that the hotel may not be sound-proofed enough for certain tastes.
