The Mill House Inn

The Mill House Inn Rating: 4.0 Pearls

This historic home turned bed and breakfast in East Hampton is meticulously maintained and decorated. Although it's just a short walk from the village center, it remains a hidden gem that stays open year-round. The owners, Gary and Sylvia, have included their personal touches in the 10 rooms and suites, right down to the stuffed Gordon Setters on each bed and photography on the walls. The location is not directly on the beach and rooms come at a high price, but the top-notch breakfast and easy walk to restaurants and shops make it a stand-out option.
The East Hampton Art House Bed & Breakfast

The East Hampton Art House Bed & Breakfast Rating: 4.0 Pearls

This elegant B&B in East Hampton is exactly what its name suggests: a house full of art. It was designed and decorated by the owners, Michael and Rosalind, who combine mutual talents in art and hospitality. There are only four rooms for rent, but there are all the amenities of a larger property, including endless communal spaces, an outdoor pool, and fitness center. Although big in scope, the Art House retains all of the personalized charm of staying with friends, making it a distinctive option in the Hamptons -- though it comes at a high price.
Panoramic View

Panoramic View Rating: 4.0 Pearls

This sprawling resort tucked away on scenic Old Montauk Highway takes the word "panoramic" seriously: Every room comes with a direct ocean view and private patio or balcony. The 10-acre site is situated on a hillside and includes pretty walkways, an outdoor pool, state-of-the-art fitness center, and private beach access. Rooms are large and lovely, and amenities are plentiful -- but you’ll need a car to get to restaurants and nightlife.
C/O The Maidstone

C/O The Maidstone Rating: 4.0 Pearls

This historic yet chic property in the center of East Hampton appeals to the stylish Hamptonite crowd with 16 rooms/suites, and three cottages decorated in Scandinavian design. Owned by a Swedish entrepreneur with 20 hotels around the world, this one is just steps from the village and a bike ride to the beach (with free beach cruiser loaners available). The pretty front porch, trendy restaurant, and distinct amenities (such as doggie menus and yoga classes in the Buddha garden) make this a popular choice for those who have money to spend.
Oheka Castle Hotel & Estate

Oheka Castle Hotel & Estate Rating: 3.5 Pearls

Oheka Castle, built in the 1920s as the second largest private residence in the U.S., is a magnificent chateau-style property about an hour from New York City. It’s the country’s top wedding venue, and one of the most striking properties on the East Coast. It features 32 individually decorated rooms and stately common spaces, and is surrounded by 23 acres of gorgeous, manicured gardens. Guests have access to the exclusive Cold Spring Country Club, a well-equipped fitness center, and a fine dining restaurant, but note that there is no full spa as of yet (only in-room massages are offered at the moment). tag:revisit 1/1/2014
The Hedges Inn

The Hedges Inn Rating: 3.5 Pearls

This charming East Hampton inn is a cozy gem. Built in 1870, it still retains its original Victorian charm while also offering modern comforts such as free Wi-Fi, contemporary bathrooms, and flat-screen TVs. With a total of 12 unique rooms, decorated mostly in calming and seaside-appropriate whites and blues, this hotel has several inviting common spaces, including a sunny breakfast room/bar and a bright den area with a computer and jars of sweet treats. A perfectly manicured garden has an expansive terrace and the lobby has a fireplace. The homemade free daily breakfast is creative and top-notch, served with pride by the caring staff.
The Palms Hotel Fire Island

The Palms Hotel Fire Island Rating: 3.0 Pearls

This lovely, 27-room boutique hotel is located just minutes from the ferry landing in the Ocean Beach section of the island, and is best described as a collection of lodgings versus a hotel, since there are rooms in the main hotel as well as separate cottages, bungalows, suites, and efficiencies. In other words, your stay will largely be predicated on the type of room you book. No matter what size space you end up in, however, you can rest assured that it will be clean and comfortable (though perhaps somewhat small) with comfy bedding as well as modern amenities. Some rooms have full kitchens and patios as well. There’s also an interior courtyard with loungers and barbecue grills, and a private "beach" near the bay. The affiliated CJ’s restaurant serves up a varied menu and strong cocktails. Bicycles and wagons -- the latter used to cart luggage from the ferry or umbrellas and towels to the beach -- are free for guest use.
