Montage Beverly Hills

Montage Beverly Hills Rating: 5.0 Pearls

This 201-room luxury hotel located in the heart of upscale Beverly Hills is elegant in every way, from the Spanish Colonial-inspired architecture to the spacious, sumptuous rooms to the perfectly manicured courtyard. Highlights include a luxury spa, renowned Italian restaurant, and a heated rooftop pool. Only the Peninsula and the Beverly Wilshire hotels can compare.

Beverly Wilshire Beverly Hills - A Four Seasons Hotel

Beverly Wilshire Beverly Hills - A Four Seasons Hotel Rating: 5.0 Pearls

Less stuffy than the Beverly Hills Hotel, more glam than the Beverly Hilton, this iconic Beverly Hills hotel is a top luxury pick for business or leisure, families or romance. With beautiful guest rooms, a Wolfgang Puck restaurant, and a great spa, pool and fitness center, plus doting Four Seasons service, it's hard to find fault.

The Beverly Hills Hotel

The Beverly Hills Hotel Rating: 5.0 Pearls

THE BEVERLY HILLS HOTEL HAS RENOVATED ITS LOBBY SINCE OUR VISIT, AND WILL BE UNDERGOING ROOM RENOVATIONS THROUGHOUT 2014. WE WILL REVISIT THE PROPERTY ONCE RENOVATIONS ARE COMPLETE. 12-acres of lush grounds, this historic hotel is a serene, luxurious escape five minutes from Rodeo Drive. Its formal service and aura lend it a stuffier feel than the Four Seasons Beverly Wilshire, but it also has anachronistic charms, like an old-fashioned soda fountain, plus a great pool and restaurants.

The London West Hollywood

The London West Hollywood Rating: 4.5 Pearls

Just off the Sunset Strip, the London offers the highest levels of luxury and service at reasonable prices. With 200 beautifully appointed, 750-square-foot rooms, a rooftop pool and fitness area with panoramic views, and a restaurant from star chef Gordon Ramsay, the hotel attracts a sophisticated set who expect service as great as the value.

SLS Hotel at Beverly Hills

SLS Hotel at Beverly Hills Rating: 4.5 Pearls

The Philippe Starck-designed SLS, opened in 2008, may dazzle -- and possibly overwhelm -- the senses with capital-D design. The rooms are sleek, luxurious, and spacious; its gym is enormous, and restaurants by Spanish chef Jose Andres are praiseworthy. But the high-design elements sometimes get in the way of comfort and practicality -- neither of its two pools, for example, is deep enough for swimming.

Hotel Casa Del Mar

Hotel Casa Del Mar Rating: 4.5 Pearls

A true jewel, this historic grand hotel is world-class yet refreshingly unpretentious (unless you count the Hollywood crowd at the popular lobby bar). But there is nothing modest about its spacious elegant rooms, rooftop pool, and commanding location right on the beach -- a rarity in L.A. It's one of the best luxury hotels in town.

L'Ermitage Beverly Hills

L'Ermitage Beverly Hills Rating: 4.5 Pearls

Hidden away in a quiet residential section of Beverly Hills, this 119-room hotel pampers guests with extraordinary service (including a rare, flexible checkout policy), huge 650-square-foot standard rooms, and a 24-hour rooftop pool with 360-degree views. All in all, a hotel with few equals.

The Ritz-Carlton Los Angeles

The Ritz-Carlton Los Angeles Rating: 4.5 Pearls

With spacious, beautiful rooms, a rooftop pool, a full-service spa, and tasteful, contemporary decor, this hotel delivers the level of luxury you'd expect from a Ritz. Its downtown location in the L.A. Live entertainment complex means you're close to numerous restaurants, a movie theater and sports games in the adjacent Staples Center, but you'll have to drive to see L.A.'s most popular tourist sites.

Hilton Checkers Los Angeles

Hilton Checkers Los Angeles Rating: 4.0 Pearls

A clean, comfortable, and historic downtown L.A. boutique that caters primarily to business travelers. It has luxurious rooms and a rooftop deck with killer views. The tasteful, private atmosphere and modern appointments compensate for smallish rooms.

InterContinental Los Angeles

InterContinental Los Angeles Rating: 4.0 Pearls

This 364-room hotel in Century City, a commercial center for LA's TV and movie industry, features big rooms (starting at 425 square feet) with balconies and great views, free car service in a hybrid car, a sushi bar, and 24-hour room service. But room decor is a little bland, and the fitness center isn't as impressive as the Hyatt Regency's (although unlike the Hyatt's, it's free).
