Esperanza Resort, An Auberge Resort

Esperanza Resort, An Auberge Resort Rating: 5.0 Pearls

This beautiful, luxurious 57-room resort is one of the nicest in Los Cabos, and offers more of a home-y vibe than other high-end properties in the area. Handsome, spacious rooms start at 925 square feet, and are decorated in traditional Baja style, with authentic artwork and wood detailing. They come with high-end electronics and decadent bathrooms (some with Jacuzzi tubs), but the private terraces are arguably the highlight; all have at least partial ocean views (many have jaw-dropping ocean views), and some have Jacuzzis. The beach is secluded and gorgeous, but the large waves and rough reefs make it unfit for swimming. The resort's pools are top-notch, though, and pool staff offers free treats (like ice pops and fresh fruit) every hour. Since it's a smaller resort, guests get a decent amount of individual attention. Although not much is within walking distance, the resort provides plenty for guests to do on-site, including several dining/drinking options and an art gallery.
Capella Pedregal

Capella Pedregal Rating: 5.0 Pearls

The 66 rooms at the super luxurious Capella Pedregal all come with fireplaces, private terraces, and plunge pools, along with beautiful views of the Pacific Ocean and rocky cliffs. Interior design is nearly flawless, with Spanish-Colonial-inspired touches such as beautiful dark wood French doors and beamed ceilings; and the service is impeccable -- expect thoughtful extras such as afternoon deliveries of beer, chips, and guacamole to the rooms. And as far as on-site amenities go, it's tough to top the Capella Pedregal's impressive list: an infinity pool overlooking the coast, the organic Auriga Spa, and a restaurant situated on a cliff with killer views. Although the waves at the hotel's beach area are too large to allow for swimming, safe beaches can be found within five miles. All in all, it's one of the best hotels in Cabo San Lucas.
One&Only Palmilla

One&Only Palmilla Rating: 5.0 Pearls

The One&Only Palmilla is easily one of the most luxurious resorts not only in Cabo, but in Mexico. Every single feature here has an upscale touch to it, from the exclusive spa, to the wonderful cuisine, to the beautiful pools -- and certainly the rooms are nothing less than lavish, with contemporary and traditional Mexican accents, and high-tech amenities (like flat-screen TVs and free Wi-Fi). The included extras -- such as luggage unpacking, daily fruit and cocktail snacks delivered to rooms, an aromatherapy turndown menu, and 24-hour shared butler service -- set this property far apart from the competition. Just be prepared to shell out the green -- all of this comes for an exorbitant price.
Cabo Azul Resort

Cabo Azul Resort Rating: 4.5 Pearls

Cabo Azul Resort offers a departure from Los Cabos' typical party scene, with a location outside the more authentic and subdued San Jose del Cabo, and a laid-back, welcoming atmosphere. Although a taxi or bus is necessary to visit San Jose del Cabo or Cabo San Lucas, some may appreciate the quieter atmosphere. The 144 villa-style rooms come with modern amenities, such as stainless steel kitchen appliances and flat-screen TVs, as well as casually elegant decor (especially nice touches include airy linens draped over the bed headboards, wooden lanterns, and bamboo-covered ceilings). As for the rest of the resort, it's impressive from all angles as well, featuring a three-level infinity pool, quaint outdoor fire pits, and tasty restaurants.
Villa la Estancia

Villa la Estancia Rating: 4.5 Pearls

Villa la Estancia is the high-end hotel in a cluster of three sister resorts, and offers a nice reprieve from the crazy, party hotels Cabo is known for -- the grounds are pristine, the pool's swim-up bar isn't teeming with underaged partiers, and the rooms are large. Decor is a bit bland (although there are at least no typical floral motifs) and meals are expensive, but couples and families tend to enjoy the hotel's serene atmosphere, large suites, and location directly on a beach with calm waters (though the beach can quickly get crowded).
Hyatt Ziva Los Cabos

Hyatt Ziva Los Cabos Rating: 4.5 Pearls

A great family-friendly option for Los Cabos, the 619-suite all-inclusive Hyatt Ziva Los Cabos offers guests a decent variety of activities and facilities. For the young ones, there's the kids water park, kiddy pool, and kids' club. For the adults, the on-site spa, relaxing adult-only pools, and swim-up bar in the infinity pool are definite perks. Although the beach isn't swim-friendly due to rough waves, the pools offer more than enough space for taking a dip. Suites are spacious and luxurious, and echo the hotel's overall vibe -- big, clean, and modern. They also come with marble bathrooms, soaking tubs, and patios or balconies. The property was rebranded as a Hyatt in late 2013 and will be undergoing renovations in 2014. tag:revisit 5/1/2014
Fiesta Americana Grand Los Cabos Golf & Spa Resort

Fiesta Americana Grand Los Cabos Golf & Spa Resort Rating: 4.5 Pearls

The peaceful location of the Fiesta Americana is away from the main party atmosphere of Cabo San Lucas. All 249 rooms and suites are spacious, with relaxing, neutral tones and interesting touches such as Mexican art and sculpture accents. Luxurious features include large bathrooms with soaking tubs and walk-in showers. The gorgeous infinity pool is a real perk here, along with the above average, plush lounge chairs and cabanas, both at the pool and on the beach. The location is excellent for access to Cabo's two championship golf courses, and kids can keep entertained with a kids' club room packed with toys, art supplies, games, and computers. Suite upgrades can make a trip to Fiesta Americana uber luxurious -- extra amenities include outdoor showers and private outdoor Jacuzzis.
Pueblo Bonito Pacifica Resort & Spa

Pueblo Bonito Pacifica Resort & Spa Rating: 4.5 Pearls

The all-inclusive, adults-only Pueblo Bonitio Pacifica Resort is a tranquil, upscale resort on a gorgeous beach. It feels removed and secluded from the Cabo nightlife, though it's only about a 10-minute drive away. Amenities are plentiful; there are two beautiful pools, tennis courts, five restaurants (including sushi and Italian options), five bars (no well liquor here; they serve Absolut, Bacardi, and Cuervo 1800, along with over 50 brands of liquor), a large fitness center, and a full-service spa with a sexy Jacuzzi and a meditation labyrinth. All 154 rooms feature understated, contemporary beach decor with dark woods, Mexican accents such as local artwork and floor mosaics, and soft yellow and white bedding. All rooms also have ocean-view balconies and free Wi-Fi, but outdated tube TVs -- surprising for a resort of this caliber. Still, couples looking for a quiet, romantic getaway should be pleased with this option.
Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach

Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach Rating: 4.5 Pearls

This 635-suite Pueblo Bonito is an all-inclusive optional megaresort with direct access to a gorgeous beach. The family-friendly alternative to its adults-only sister resort -- the nearby Pacifica -- Sunset Beach has tons of kid-friendly amenities: a kids' club, six gorgeous pools, a playground, tennis courts, a beach volleyball court, and novelties such as flamingos roaming the property. But couples can have just as much fun here; one of the three restaurants is adults-only, and the spa features numerous treatment rooms, as well as a Jacuzzi set in a beautiful, stone-walled room. The suites at the hotel are average, featuring simple Mexican-inspired decor (picture pops of red and blues in the comforters and living room furniture) as well as fully equipped kitchenettes. Surprisingly for a hotel of this category, rooms only have tube TVs. Most guests choose to go with the all-inclusive option; those that don't have to deal with pesky fees for simple amenities such as Wi-Fi and access to the fitness center.
Grand Solmar Land's End Resort & Spa

Grand Solmar Land's End Resort & Spa Rating: 4.5 Pearls

Grand Solmar Land's End Resort & Spa is set against the ethereal background of the Pacific Ocean and a massive natural rock formation that hugs the resort. The hotel lobby mirrors this formation with modern stone and dark wood flooring and high, beamed ceilings. The resort features a spa at Land's End Terrace (with beachside massage cabanas) that overlooks the ocean. Each suite is equipped with a full kitchen with stainless steel appliances, and the bathrooms are simple and sleek with Spanish tiling. Outside, the slender infinity pool with Jacuzzi and swim-up bar commands views of the ocean. This beautiful all-inclusive resort, located near the iconic El Arco, is inviting to all types of travelers, from families to couples.
