Villa la Estancia

Villa la Estancia Rating: 4.5 Pearls

Villa la Estancia is the high-end hotel in a cluster of three sister resorts, and offers a nice reprieve from the crazy, party hotels Cabo is known for -- the grounds are pristine, the pool's swim-up bar isn't teeming with underaged partiers, and the rooms are large. Decor is a bit bland (although there are at least no typical floral motifs) and meals are expensive, but couples and families tend to enjoy the hotel's serene atmosphere, large suites, and location directly on a beach with calm waters (though the beach can quickly get crowded).
Hyatt Ziva Los Cabos

Hyatt Ziva Los Cabos Rating: 4.5 Pearls

A great family-friendly option for Los Cabos, the 619-suite all-inclusive Hyatt Ziva Los Cabos offers guests a decent variety of activities and facilities. For the young ones, there's the kids water park, kiddy pool, and kids' club. For the adults, the on-site spa, relaxing adult-only pools, and swim-up bar in the infinity pool are definite perks. Although the beach isn't swim-friendly due to rough waves, the pools offer more than enough space for taking a dip. Suites are spacious and luxurious, and echo the hotel's overall vibe -- big, clean, and modern. They also come with marble bathrooms, soaking tubs, and patios or balconies. The property was rebranded as a Hyatt in late 2013 and will be undergoing renovations in 2014. tag:revisit 5/1/2014
Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach

Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach Rating: 4.5 Pearls

This 635-suite Pueblo Bonito is an all-inclusive optional megaresort with direct access to a gorgeous beach. The family-friendly alternative to its adults-only sister resort -- the nearby Pacifica -- Sunset Beach has tons of kid-friendly amenities: a kids' club, six gorgeous pools, a playground, tennis courts, a beach volleyball court, and novelties such as flamingos roaming the property. But couples can have just as much fun here; one of the three restaurants is adults-only, and the spa features numerous treatment rooms, as well as a Jacuzzi set in a beautiful, stone-walled room. The suites at the hotel are average, featuring simple Mexican-inspired decor (picture pops of red and blues in the comforters and living room furniture) as well as fully equipped kitchenettes. Surprisingly for a hotel of this category, rooms only have tube TVs. Most guests choose to go with the all-inclusive option; those that don't have to deal with pesky fees for simple amenities such as Wi-Fi and access to the fitness center.
Grand Solmar Land's End Resort & Spa

Grand Solmar Land's End Resort & Spa Rating: 4.5 Pearls

Grand Solmar Land's End Resort & Spa is set against the ethereal background of the Pacific Ocean and a massive natural rock formation that hugs the resort. The hotel lobby mirrors this formation with modern stone and dark wood flooring and high, beamed ceilings. The resort features a spa at Land's End Terrace (with beachside massage cabanas) that overlooks the ocean. Each suite is equipped with a full kitchen with stainless steel appliances, and the bathrooms are simple and sleek with Spanish tiling. Outside, the slender infinity pool with Jacuzzi and swim-up bar commands views of the ocean. This beautiful all-inclusive-optional resort, located near the iconic El Arco, is inviting to all types of travelers, from families to couples.
Sheraton Hacienda Del Mar Golf & Spa Resort

Sheraton Hacienda Del Mar Golf & Spa Resort Rating: 4.0 Pearls

The 270 rooms of the Sheraton Hacienda are spread out in colorful buildings across pristine grounds. The room decor itself may not be that exciting (tiled floors, rare pops of color, and local artwork attempt to create an authentic vibe) but everything is modern, including flat-screen TVs and crisp white linens. Every room has a private terrace, many with gorgeous ocean views. The private beach, where the waves can get a bit rough, is rarely crowded. And the hotel also has three pools, one with a swim-up bar. It's a good choice for families, with a kids' club and four on-site restaurants, but the hotel is a 15-minute drive from downtown Cabo, so partiers may want to stay closer to the nightlife.
Cabo Villas Beach Resort and Spa

Cabo Villas Beach Resort and Spa Rating: 4.0 Pearls

Almost all 142 units of the Cabo Villas are romantic, airy and bright – with modern décor, stylish fixtures, and spacious balconies with stunning views (some even feature private Jacuzzis). Lower-level rooms, however, tend to be dark and have limited views. The ocean-side location is beautiful, but Medano Beach's shores are teeming with vendors and growing waves of tourists. And the property's timeshare sales pitches are a nuisance for some.
Ventanas Hotel & Residences

Ventanas Hotel & Residences Rating: 4.0 Pearls

Ventanas Hotel and Residences occupies a secluded location in the hills above Cabo San Lucas. This family-friendly residential community is private and safe, offering spacious villas with modern kitchens and a private pool. These residences have more perks than nearby resorts, including washers and dryers, a private outdoor Jacuzzi, and peaceful rooftop seating with a fire pit and big barbecue area. There are also convenient extras such as garages with each unit, a fitness center, and a small cafe for snacks and deli items. While there are incredible views due to the hotel's elevation, as well as free Wi-Fi, some guests complain about barking dogs, and the isolated location means a rental car is necessary.
The Ridge Luxury Villas at Playa Grande

The Ridge Luxury Villas at Playa Grande Rating: 4.0 Pearls

This 98-villa property is ideally located in downtown Cabo San Lucas. It's within walking distance to the marina, and guests are only a few minutes from local shopping and cuisine, as well as fishing and water activities, such as sailing and surfing. The resort, which sits in between beautiful natural rock formations, has sweeping views from nearly every angle, including from the private balconies off each villa. The villas -- either one-bedroom Master Villas or two-bedroom Luxury Villas -- feature nicely equipped kitchens (no ovens though), spacious bathrooms with walk-in showers and soaking tubs, and a streamlined modern decor (though the old tube TVs seem out of place, and there's a charge for Wi-Fi). Aside from the beautiful, modern rooms and stunning views, perks of this resort include an on-site spa, three restaurants, a fitness center, and three lovely pools that feature a swim-up bar, water slide, and two Jacuzzis.
Villa Del Arco Beach Resort & Grand Spa

Villa Del Arco Beach Resort & Grand Spa Rating: 4.0 Pearls

The Villa del Arco is a well-kept beachfront property featuring 220 studios and suites. Though the typical Mexican room decor (colorful tiles, beach-themed artwork, and sparse furniture) is uninspired, rooms are spacious, with kitchenettes and balconies. The massive pool, complete with pirate ship, is kid-friendly, but couples might enjoy the top-notch spa. The hotel calms down after dinnertime; partiers may want to try a downtown location. As long as guests can avoid the pushy timeshare sellers, the hotel has a Zen-like vibe -- not to mention four-pearl amenities such as 24-hour room service and pristine grounds.

Alegranza Rating: 4.0 Pearls

Far removed from the party atmosphere of Cabos San Lucas, this upscale property is comprised of 95 residences on beautifully landscaped grounds that include pools, putting greens, fire pits, a fitness center, tennis court, and restaurant. Units are spacious, with large living rooms, full kitchens, and private yards or patios. Spanish pop star Enrique Iglesias is part-owner of this quiet and well-kept property, mostly frequented by couples and families on long vacations. It is a 15-minute hike from the beach, which has rougher waves than the southern shores. Families hoping to be near calmer waters may consider Villa la Estancia, which also offers large rooms and is right on tranquil Medano Beach.
