Grand Hyatt Melbourne

Grand Hyatt Melbourne Rating: 5.0 Pearls

This opulent, centrally located hotel caters to the needs -- and deep wallets -- of business travelers. With big, comfortable rooms and plenty of on-site amenities, including a pool and rooftop tennis court, meeting facilities, and a spa, the luxurious Grand Hyatt is a solid pick for those who want to combine work and pleasure. It is, however, missing the small touches that set other luxury hotels apart, such as automatic turndown service or refreshments upon arrival.
Art Series - The Olsen

Art Series - The Olsen Rating: 4.5 Pearls

This upscale boutique hotel is located in the heart of Australia’s trendy South Yarra neighborhood, which is filled with shops, restaurants and bars. As part of the Art Series Hotel Group, it’s dedicated to showcasing art from an individual artist—the acclaimed Dr. John Olsen. Guests are greeted by gorgeous artwork and sculptures throughout the hotel. There are over 200 elegant suites with modern technology and two on-site restaurants. There are also a spa and a fitness center, but the equipment is very minimal, and there’s a charge for in-room Wi-Fi.
Hotel Lindrum

Hotel Lindrum Rating: 4.5 Pearls

The 59-room Hotel Lindrum is a modern boutique hotel located just a short walk from sights such as Federation Square and Melbourne Park. It lacks a fitness center and spa, but the features it does have are done well: The restaurant serves a nice breakfast buffet, and the cozy bar features a fireplace and a billiards table. Round-the-clock room service is also available, and Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel. Rooms feature sleek lines, dark wood accents, and high-style light fixtures and artwork that create a chic vibe. All bedding underwent a refresh and now features crisp white linens with earth-tone pillows for a light and airy vibe.
Stamford Plaza Melbourne

Stamford Plaza Melbourne Rating: 4.0 Pearls

Located on one of central Melbourne's most colorful streets, the upscale Stamford Plaza offers apartment-style accommodations with some upmarket amenities and a smaller price tag than nearby luxury competitors. The hotel gets the basics right (there's a well-equipped fitness center and an indoor pool), but nondescript interior design and a disappointing restaurant may underwhelm those looking for a more memorable stay.
Art Series - The Blackman

Art Series - The Blackman Rating: 4.0 Pearls

With striking prints by Australian artist Charles Blackman and minimalist decor throughout, the sleekly upscale 209-room Blackman feels more like a downtown art gallery than a high-end hotel. The spacious, up-to-date rooms, all with balconies and designer furnishings, are comfortable and include inspired artwork, but the bathrooms are small. About a 40-minute walk from the Central Business District, or CBD, the hotel has two restaurants -- Depot de Pain, a French-style cafe, and Classico, an Italian style restaurant that also serves as a bar.
St Kilda Road Parkview Hotel

St Kilda Road Parkview Hotel Rating: 4.0 Pearls

The 206-room Parkview Hotel is a solid upper-middle-range option south of Melbourne's city center. The hotel overlooks Albert Park, but reaching most sights will require a drive. Room decor is contemporary if chain-like: It's a step above what one might find at a Holiday Inn, and includes with red striped bedding accents, IKEA-esque furniture, and work desks. Modern bathrooms have big walk-in showers with rainfall showerheads. All rooms have swivel flat-screen TVs with laptop hookups that are inset in the entertainment units, as well as free Wi-Fi. Hotel features include a small fitness center with floor-to-ceiling windows and city views; a jetted rooftop plunge pool and Jacuzzi under a domed glass ceiling, a sauna, and laundry facilities -- all adding to its value.
Citadines on Bourke Melbourne

Citadines on Bourke Melbourne Rating: 4.0 Pearls

As part of the popular Citadines chain, The Citadines on Bourke has modern apartments that offer privacy with the convenience of a hotel. It’s in the heart of the Central Business District located on Bourke Street, one of Melbourne’s most well-known streets. The close proximity to the Parliament House and Old Treasury Building makes it ideal for business travelers. The Bourke Street Mall is also nearby for shopping and restaurants that appeal to both families and couples. A fitness center, indoor pool, sauna and outdoor sundeck are also on-site. Wi-Fi is free, but can have a spotty connection.
