Wyndham Midtown 45

Wyndham Midtown 45 Rating: 4.0 Pearls

Located farther from the subway stations than most Midtown East hotels, the Alex's neighborhood isn't exactly fashionable (it's dominated by offices and residential buildings), but it's a smart, stylish option with an intimate, low-key vibe, a great gym, luxurious in-room amenities, a friendly staff, and easy access to Midtown's corporate centers.

The Kimberly Hotel

The Kimberly Hotel Rating: 4.0 Pearls

Located in business-focused Midtown East, this famous hotel is a favorite among visiting dignitaries, politicians, and extended-stay business travelers. The veteran staff greets guests by name and the one-bedroom suites with kitchenettes offer about three times more room than most New York hotels. A complete renovation in 2012 only made this stately hotel better.

The Westin New York Grand Central

The Westin New York Grand Central Rating: 3.5 Pearls

With spacious, contemporary rooms featuring Westin’s signature Heavenly Beds, iPod docks and flat-screen TVs; a wonderful gym with tons of machines and natural light, and an appealing restaurant that turns into a hopping bar with DJ sessions at night, the Westin Grand Central is a solid pick for those who prefer a quieter location in Midtown within walking distance of a few major attractions. Most rooms have great city views (including of the Chrysler Building), but note that there’s a daily fee for Wi-Fi, and that valet parking is quite pricey.

ONE UN New York

ONE UN New York Rating: 3.5 Pearls

Steps from the UN headquarters on the eastern edge of Midtown East, ONE UN New York offers an indoor pool and the only indoor tennis court in NYC. As of now, the property is showing wear and tear since its last renovation in 2000. However, guests can expect big changes at the hotel with a three-phase renovation of the entire property through 2013.

Omni Berkshire Place

Omni Berkshire Place Rating: 3.5 Pearls

Located in N.Y.C.’s shopping and corporate-office hub, the Omni’s spacious rooms, attentive service, stand-out restaurant with kids menus, and great fitness center make it a solid choice for families and corporate travelers. But it's worth comparing rates with the equally elegant, service-oriented Hotel Elysée a few block away.

Affinia Fifty

Affinia Fifty Rating: 3.5 Pearls

A convenient Midtown East location, specialty pillow options, and freebies like in-room fitness kit, contact lens solution, and a free wine reception make this Affinia a solid value (though there's no restaurant on site). Large rooms (most of which sleep 4+ people with the pull-out sofa) make the Affinia an especially good (and affordable) choice for families.
