Wyndham Midtown 45

Wyndham Midtown 45 Rating: 4.0 Pearls

Located two blocks from a subway station in Midtown East, the Wyndham's neighborhood isn't exactly fashionable (it's dominated by offices and residential buildings), but it's a smart, stylish option. It has an intimate, low-key vibe, a great gym, luxurious in-room amenities, a friendly staff, and easy access to Midtown's corporate centers.
Fifty NYC–an Affinia hotel

Fifty NYC–an Affinia hotel Rating: 4.0 Pearls

Fifty NYC–an Affinia hotel is a 251-room, upscale boutique hotel with art-driven contemporary style that showcases local artists. The hotel's Midtown East location makes it convenient for both business travelers and tourists while its big, apartment-like rooms and suites (some with kitchenettes) are great for families and visitors on extended stays. Boutique extras include a wine hour, free Wi-Fi, and pet-friendly policies, but there's no full restaurant (just a continental breakfast, for a fee). Prices are competitive for this caliber, especially given the location and the size of the rooms, though guests may also want to consider The Lexington New York City.
The Kimberly Hotel

The Kimberly Hotel Rating: 4.0 Pearls

Located in business-focused Midtown East, this famous hotel is a favorite among visiting dignitaries, politicians, and extended-stay business travelers. The veteran staff greets guests by name and the one-bedroom suites with kitchenettes offer about three times more room than most New York hotels. A complete renovation in 2012 only made this stately hotel better.
The Westin New York Grand Central

The Westin New York Grand Central Rating: 3.5 Pearls

With spacious, contemporary rooms featuring Westin’s signature Heavenly Beds, iPod docks and flat-screen TVs; a wonderful gym with tons of machines and natural light, and an appealing restaurant that turns into a hopping bar with DJ sessions at night, the Westin Grand Central is a solid pick for those who prefer a quieter location in Midtown within walking distance of a few major attractions. Most rooms have great city views (including of the Chrysler Building), but note that there’s a daily fee for Wi-Fi, and that valet parking is quite pricey.
ONE UN New York

ONE UN New York Rating: 3.5 Pearls

Steps from the UN headquarters on the eastern edge of Midtown East, ONE UN New York offers an indoor pool and the only indoor tennis court in NYC. As of now, the property is showing wear and tear since its last renovation in 2000. However, guests can expect big changes at the hotel with a three-phase renovation of the entire property through 2013.
Omni Berkshire Place

Omni Berkshire Place Rating: 3.5 Pearls

Located in N.Y.C.’s shopping and corporate-office hub, the Omni’s spacious rooms, attentive service, stand-out restaurant with kids menus, and great fitness center make it a solid choice for families and corporate travelers. But it's worth comparing rates with the equally elegant, service-oriented Hotel Elysée a few block away.
Residence Inn New York Manhattan/Midtown East

Residence Inn New York Manhattan/Midtown East Rating: 3.5 Pearls

This stylish Residence Inn has a distinctly homey vibe: Guests are encouraged to make use of the expansive Hearth Room lounge area throughout the day; all rooms are big, stylish suites featuring well-equipped kitchens; and a free breakfast buffet is served daily. The 24-hour business center and free Wi-Fi will appeal to business travelers, while families will likely appreciate the larger suites with separate living areas and sofa beds. Still, it's worth comparing rates with other properties in the area, such as the Wyndham Midtown 45, Kimberly Hotel, and Hyatt 48 Lex.
The Roger Smith

The Roger Smith Rating: 3.0 Pearls

Made up of 130 homey guest rooms -- with books and live plants -- this unique, B&B-style hotel feels worlds away from its surrounding corporate skyscrapers in Midtown East, near subways and museums. Free Wi-Fi, a small seasonal rooftop bar, and a funky, artsy cafe add even more to the charm. All told, a fine (and fun) pick for the price.
BEST WESTERN PLUS Hospitality House

BEST WESTERN PLUS Hospitality House Rating: 3.0 Pearls

A converted apartment building, the Best Western PLUS Hospitality House is a great mid-range option in Midtown East. Rooms -- which are all one- or two-bedrooms -- are very spacious by New York City standards. Each one comes with a full kitchen and all the necessary utensils; a separate living space with a flat-screen TV; and bathrooms with Bath & Body toiletries. Amenities are few: There is a free breakfast buffet daily that can be taken in an outdoor courtyard, but there is no full-service restaurant. There's also no fitness center on-site, but the hotel does provide free passes to a nearby YMCA. Overall, it's a solid option for large groups and those looking for a homey stay in Manhattan -- but it's worth comparing rates with the Wyndham Midtown 45, which also offers kitchen-equipped suites.
