The Ritz-Carlton, St. Louis

The Ritz-Carlton, St. Louis Rating: 4.5 Pearls

This 300-room Ritz is located in the business district of Clayton, a suburb of St. Louis located about nine miles from downtown, which guests can easily access using the MetroLink subway system. The hotel lives up to the Ritz brand's reputation, and features crystal chandeliers, marble floors, dark woods, and rich rugs in the common areas. Rooms are classically chic, featuring balconies, comfortable beds, and bathrooms with deep soaking tubs with separate showers. There are three on-site restaurants, as well as a bakery, lively lounge, and cigar club. The massive fitness center features an indoor pool, whirlpool, steam room and sauna. But while the service and features don't disappoint, there is some wear and tear throughout this older property, particularly in some of guest room furnishings.
Omni Majestic Hotel

Omni Majestic Hotel Rating: 4.0 Pearls

This historic hotel in downtown St. Louis, built in 1913, is traditionally elegant, with decor that incorporates original Italian marble and mahogany wood. It is the smallest property in the Omni chain, with 91 spacious rooms and suites. Rooms have classic (if slightly bland decor) and come with bathrobes, coffeemakers, and iPod docks. The on-site restaurant and bar serves basic American pub fare, and the location is central to many restaurants and top sights in the area; guests can walk or take advantage of the free shuttle for stops within a three-mile radius. Meeting rooms, free newspapers, and a small fitness center appeal to regular business guests, but there are daily fees for valet parking and Wi-Fi.
The Cheshire

The Cheshire Rating: 4.0 Pearls

The Cheshire has long been a St. Louis institution, and the historic property was thoroughly rejuvenated after multi-million dollar renovations in 2011. The classic decor in the lobby and cozy Fox & Hounds tavern were preserved during the overhaul, and the 108-room property retained charming British-inspired elements throughout. Yet modern additions -- such as the chic outdoor pool and terrace, as well as luxe amenities in rooms (flat-screen TVs, iPod docks, pretty duvets) -- add a fresh boutique appeal. Free extras including a continental breakfast, coffee/tea (at all times), use of a fitness center, a business center, free bicycles, and Wi-Fi, help make it a great value.
Hilton St. Louis at the Ballpark

Hilton St. Louis at the Ballpark Rating: 3.5 Pearls

Not just any hotel in St. Louis can get away with using the word "Ballpark" in the name, but the Hilton -- with its unmatched view of Busch Stadium -- deserves the moniker. The 670-room property is divided over two towers, and thought it's older (it used to be a Marriott) it underwent renovations in 2012. Rooms have contemporary decor, flat-screen TVs, and iPod docks (though some are still undergoing renovations). tag:revisit 4/1/2013 Its numerous meeting and convention facilities on-site draw a business crowd, but the trendy rooftop bar -- boasting 360 degree views -- attracts a young and fun set, especially on game nights. Meanwhile, dining options on the main level include a mix of casual and gourmet fare. An indoor pool and fitness center are free for guests, but there are fees for Wi-Fi and valet parking.
Sheraton Westport Plaza Tower

Sheraton Westport Plaza Tower Rating: 3.5 Pearls

The Sheraton Westport Plaza Hotel is a business-friendly upper-middle-range chain hotel about a 20-minute drive from downtown St. Louis. It's attached to The Westport Plaza, a 42-acre complex of retail and office space on the outskirts of the city. The aging hotel completed a multimillion dollar renovation in 2011 and now has contemporary decor throughout. The 210 rooms are generic, with white duvets, flat-screen TVs, and coffeemakers. Guests can dine at the hotel's on-site restaurants or at casual eateries in Westport Plaza; other options will require a drive. Parking is free, but there's a fee for in-room Wi-Fi.
BEST WESTERN Center Pointe Inn

BEST WESTERN Center Pointe Inn Rating: 3.0 Pearls

The Best Western Center Pointe Inn sits in the prime entertainment area of Branson, with shops, restaurants, and attractions all within walking distance. There are an indoor pool and outdoor pool, both with hot tubs (though they have no views), in addition to a gym, business center, and game room. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel, though the signal may be an issue for some. Although there is no on-site restaurant or bar, the hotel shares a parking lot with Montana Mike’s Steakhouse and offers a free breakfast with hot and cold items. Some rooms have microwaves, mini-fridges, and jetted tubs, while others have enough space for large families. The overall decor is mundane, but fits the Best Western brand standards, and the entire hotel is extremely clean.
Lodge of the Ozarks

Lodge of the Ozarks Rating: 3.0 Pearls

The Lodge of the Ozarks is a great value considering its central location in Branson, as well as its modern common areas -- the lobby and lounge are filled with beautiful wood furnishings (although rooms are noticeably more dated). Some rooms are plain and basic, with only the essentials and old TVs. Other rooms have jetted tubs, lodge-style decor, granite countertops, and mini-fridges. There is free Wi-Fi throughout the property, along with concierge services and dinner shows at the on-site Club Room theater. Additionally, the hotel has an indoor pool, fitness center, and sun deck. The hotel serves a hot breakfast for a fee.
Holiday Inn Express Branson - Green Mountain Drive

Holiday Inn Express Branson - Green Mountain Drive Rating: 3.0 Pearls

The Holiday Inn Express Branson-Green Mountain Drive is a simple, modern, eco-friendly hotel located within walking distance of both downtown Branson and local attractions and restaurants. The busy street and traffic may be an issue, though. Room design features standard chain fare (with flat-screen TVs, microwaves, and mini-fridges), but the lobby is surprisingly attractive with artistic light fixtures and a dark wood and marble front desk. Some rooms are large with walk-in showers and jetted tubs, while others lack bathroom and counter space. There is free Wi-Fi and a free breakfast that gets good reviews, along with helpful concierge services and a 24-hour game room. The pool, hot tub, and steam room are open late and are popular with families.
