Marina Inn at Grande Dunes

Marina Inn at Grande Dunes Rating: 4.0 Pearls

This 200-room hotel is tucked away in a tranquil spot of the 2,200-acre Grande Dunes Resort. The adjacent marina can be viewed from some guest rooms, all of which have private terraces. Rooms are large, but cheesy touches like shell-shaped lamps make the decor seem dated. This upscale property features several stylish dining spots, a free-form pool complex with Jacuzzis, and a small, 24-hour fitness center with indoor pool. Free shuttle service is provided to a beach club, but those who want to lounge on the sand all day might want to consider hotels closer to the ocean.
North Beach Plantation

North Beach Plantation Rating: 4.0 Pearls

North Beach Plantation is one of the few upscale properties in Myrtle Beach -- and it's arguably the best of the bunch. Configured as condos and townhouses, accommodations are impeccably neat and clean. Sizes range from one-bedroom condos to five-bedroom cottages, making this a convenient pick for groups of any size. A high-end spa, a famous Myrtle Beach restaurant, a beachfront location and multiple options for pools means there is plenty to do on the property. Just note that it's a 25-minute drive to the boardwalk; those who prefer a more central location may want to consider the Anderson Ocean Club & Spa.
Dunes Village Resort

Dunes Village Resort Rating: 3.5 Pearls

Designed to appeal to kids and families, Dunes Village Resort is a 456-room, mid-range hotel on a wide stretch of beach with activities such as four water slides, a pirate ship-style playground, lazy river, indoor and outdoor pools, and lots of games. It’s located directly on Myrtle Beach and priced similarly to other nearby family-friendly properties, but decor and furnishings in the rooms (most with full kitchens and ocean-view balconies) could use an update, and the property charges a mandatory resort fee.
The Market Common Suites by ResortQuest

The Market Common Suites by ResortQuest Rating: 3.5 Pearls

This upper-middle-range property is located inside a planned urban village on the site of a former air force base, within walking distance of many shops and eateries. It has 81 spacious one- and two-bedroom suites and studios with contemporary decor, fully equipped kitchens, washer/dryer combos, and balconies. But there is no maid service and the property lacks a fitness center and pool. Also, you’ll have to drive to the beach and to any major attractions.
Island Vista Resort

Island Vista Resort Rating: 3.5 Pearls

The 171-room Island Vista is a solid mid-range property located directly on the beach. Suites seem a bit outdated, with tube TVs and peachy floral bedspreads, but they are spacious and offer some great ocean views. In addition to a wide, clean beach, the resort features an attractive indoor/outdoor pool complex with Jacuzzis, a lazy river, and meandering pools.
Landmark Resort

Landmark Resort Rating: 3.0 Pearls

Travelers looking to be right in the thick of things -- as well as right on the beach -- will find both at Landmark Resort. Located in Central Myrtle Beach on the Grand Strand, the resort and the surrounding area offers pretty much everything visitors could want for an action-packed South Carolina vacation, no car required. But keep in mind the hotel is just that -- a hotel, as opposed to a home-away-from-home that describes many other accommodations in Myrtle Beach.
Westgate Myrtle Beach Oceanfront Resort

Westgate Myrtle Beach Oceanfront Resort Rating: 3.0 Pearls

The Westgate is an affordable family-friendly hotel right on the water. While the rooms are a bit on the tacky side -- with clashing patterns and colors throughout -- they are clean and have spacious balconies with great ocean views. There's plenty to keep families with young children entertained, such as multiple pools, a lazy river, a children's activity center, and a large game room. It's also adjacent to the Family Kingdom Amusement Park.
Prince Resort at the Cherry Grove Pier

Prince Resort at the Cherry Grove Pier Rating: 3.0 Pearls

The Prince Resort is a solid mid-range pick in North Myrtle Beach. It offers 175 one-, two- and three-bedroom condos with full kitchens, floor-to-ceiling windows, private balconies and sleeper sofas, in two towers right on the beach. The resort features several pools --including a lazy river and a kiddy pool -- a decent oceanfront restaurant, a small fitness center, and miles and miles of beach. But decor is dated and rooms are showing a lot of tear and wear. The property has certainly seen better days, but it still offers good value to families and large groups.
Ocean Creek Resort

Ocean Creek Resort Rating: 3.0 Pearls

This North Myrtle Beach resort is a perfect place for those looking for a quiet beach vacation. Guests need a car to get to most of the main Myrtle beach attractions, but access to the beach is made easy by a tram the resort provides. Located behind a 24-hour security gate, the resort attracts a mix of families and snowbirds looking to escape the colder weather up north. Units are clean and tidy, and decor has been updated throughout most of the property. Amenities, such as a tennis facility and a grill area with live entertainment, provide on-site action.
Beach Cove Resort

Beach Cove Resort Rating: 3.0 Pearls

Beach Cove Resort is the kind of place travelers book when they're not too interested in venturing far from the resort. Located in North Myrtle Beach, the oceanfront resort isn't in the thick of the Myrtle Beach action. But if seclusion is what's sought, the Beach Cove Resort is a good option. The U-shape of the resort keeps it secluded, and the 320 ocean-facing rooms invite sea breezes instead of street traffic noise. With lots to do at Beach Cove Resort -- including several pools and a lively beach bar -- there's enough here for visitors who seek a low-key Myrtle Beach vacation. For those who do want to explore off property, it's a seven-minute drive to the shops and restaurants at Barefoot Landing.
