International House Hotel

International House Hotel Rating: 4.0 Pearls

Trendsetters and celebs stay at the International House Hotel for its quietly sexy vibe, attentive staff, and posh rooms designed by a top L.A. designer. At night, the hotel’s Loa Bar (just off the rose-scented lobby) serves fancy libations by candlelight. The rates here are surprisingly fair, and the Central Business District location is within walking distance of the French Quarter.
The Hotel Modern

The Hotel Modern Rating: 3.5 Pearls

The trendy Hotel Modern is a quirky upper-middle-range boutique property with eclectic decor and a boho-meets-industrial-chic vibe. An on-site farm-to-table restaurant serves modern Southern fare and there's also a hip and atmospheric cocktail bar with crimson walls and plush seating. The 135 rooms are fairly bare and simply furnished, but clean, with modern amenities that include flat-screen TVs, Keurig coffeemakers, iPod docks, free Wi-Fi, and C.O. Bigelow products in the bathrooms. Situated on a large roundabout, the property neighbors several museums and is just a few steps away from one of the streetcars that reaches the French Quarter in about 20 minutes. Travelers seeking something of a similar character, but closer to the French Quarter, might want to consider the Royal Street Inn, another hipster hangout with a bar.
Courtyard New Orleans Downtown/Iberville

Courtyard New Orleans Downtown/Iberville Rating: 3.5 Pearls

Courtyard New Orleans Downtown/Iberville is a great value mid-range property that's convenient for both business travelers and tourists who want a clean and quiet base to explore the French Quarter. It's attached to a Ritz-Carlton, where guests can pay a fee to use the swimming pool and spa facilities. Cheerful, vibrant rooms look more like those in a boutique hotel than the standard chain. Mini-fridges, iHome docks, and coffeemakers are nice touches, but views of a neighboring building can feel claustrophobic. Vieux Carre Café provides specialty coffee and pre-made sandwiches, but better options abound in the French Quarter neighborhood. If you're looking for a sexier boutique hotel with a great jazz bar, compare rates at the nearby Saint Hotel, Autograph Collection (which is often slightly more expensive).
Hotel Mazarin

Hotel Mazarin Rating: 3.5 Pearls

The Hotel Mazarin is an upscale boutique located in the heart of the French Quarter. It features 102 rooms with elegant decor, striking bathrooms, and solid amenities -- including large flat-screen TVs, iPod docks, and free Wi-Fi. The property offers wonderful freebies, and a popular wine bar with outdoor seating -- but the highlight here is the gorgeous arched courtyard, a welcome retreat from the crowds of Bourbon Street. Plus, rates are competitive, and location is convenient for those looking to explore the main tourist attractions on foot.
Hotel Le Marais

Hotel Le Marais Rating: 3.5 Pearls

Hotel Le Marais is a mid-range boutique located in the heart of the French Quarter. It offers 66 rooms with great amenities -- including flat-screen TVs, iPod docks, and free Wi-Fi -- and contemporary (if generic) decor. There’s a small gym with a decent selection of cardio machines; a colorful bar with a daily happy hour; and great freebies, including free bottled water and free continental breakfast. The highlight here is arguably the lovely courtyard complete with a small heated saltwater pool and tons of loungers.
Holiday Inn New Orleans Downtown-Superdome

Holiday Inn New Orleans Downtown-Superdome Rating: 3.0 Pearls

This 296-room mid-range hotel is conveniently located in the downtown NOLA area, about a half-mile from the Mercedes Benz Superdome. The hotel is also convenient to the French Quarter, convention centers, and other area attractions, making it a great choice for those traveling for business or pleasure. The rooms are well-kept but have a decidedly retro feel, which emanates from the original Andy Warhol painting that graces the lobby. There is a nice-sized rooftop pool, a 24-hour fitness center, and a funky lobby bar for relaxation, but if work is on the agenda, rest assured: the hotel provides meeting rooms, business center, and free Wi-Fi. Convenience, comfort, and a little artistic quirk sum up this Holiday Inn.
Hampton Inn & Suites New Orleans-Convention Center Hotel

Hampton Inn & Suites New Orleans-Convention Center Hotel Rating: 3.0 Pearls

This 288-room mid-range hotel located across the street from the convention center is pretty much perfect for the business traveler or convention-goer. Built in an old cotton factory warehouse, there are high ceilings and lots of space for guests to roam. With in-room amenities like microwaves, refrigerators (mini or full-size depending on the room level), and free Wi-Fi, this can serve as a comfortable home away from home. Convention-goers will appreciate the daily breakfast buffet or On the Run breakfast bags. And there is a swimming pool and the Warehouse Bar for unwinding after a long day. It's a bit far from area attractions, but visitors can still get to the French Quarter and other popular sights with a quick taxi ride.
Country Inn & Suites by Carlson, New Orleans French Quarter

Country Inn & Suites by Carlson, New Orleans French Quarter Rating: 3.0 Pearls

This mid-range, mid-sized hotel offers larger-than-average suite-style rooms perfect for families or guests staying for a longer visits. Home-like amenities include mini-fridges and microwaves. The hotel was constructed in a few 19th century warehouses, and there are unique design attributes throughout such as exposed wooden beams and an original elevator motor on display in the lobby. Modern conveniences include free high speed Wi-Fi and large flat-screen TVs. Though the 24-hour fitness center and pool are small, they are well kept and the free daily breakfast buffet has plentiful choices. The location in the Central Business District is a five-minute walk from the heart of the French Quarter.
The Frenchmen Hotel

The Frenchmen Hotel Rating: 3.0 Pearls

The 27-room Frenchmen Hotel is in the Marigny, which is a few blocks from the French Quarter and home to some of New Orleans best music venues. The Frenchmen oozes old-style New Orleans charm, and serves a free breakfast every morning in a lovely dining room. The centerpiece of the property is a heated pool and hot tub with a brick terrace. Rooms are small, traditionally furnished, and are not geared toward families or business travelers (some don't even have desks), but they include pleasant touches such as French windows, decorative fireplaces, and Louisiana-inspired artwork. On-site covered parking is available for a fee, but Wi-Fi is free. Some guests have complained about noise from the nearby nightlife, and a musty odor in the bathrooms. More modern perks, and less noise, can be found at the nearby Lamothe House Hotel on Esplanade Avenue, but for a higher price.
