The St. Regis Monarch Beach Resort

The St. Regis Monarch Beach Resort Rating: 4.5 Pearls

The sprawling St. Regis Monarch Beach is situated on a beautiful golf course overlooking the Pacific Ocean. With elegant, comfortable rooms, large, beautiful bathrooms, and stunning grounds, it's easily one of the nicest hotels in Orange County. But it's one-and-a-half miles from the beach, so guests who want to be closer to the sand should consider the nearby Montage.
Montage Laguna Beach

Montage Laguna Beach Rating: 4.5 Pearls

With beautiful grounds, an elegant spa, and modern rooms (all of which have stunning views of the ocean), this hotel is possibly the most serene and relaxing in Orange County, California. It's perched directly above the beach, and the building's "U" shape allows for breathtaking views from the lobby and all pools, restaurants, and guest rooms.
Shorebreak Hotel

Shorebreak Hotel Rating: 4.0 Pearls

Located in the heart of Huntington Beach, just across the road from the water's edge, the four-pearl Shorebreak Hotel has a laid-back, surf-inspired atmosphere that attracts leisure and business travelers alike. Rooms run a bit small but come with spacious showers, and some of the suites have large terraces. There's a high daily fee for Wi-Fi and no pool or spa, but there is an on-site restaurant open morning until night and plenty of places to eat in the immediate vicinity.
Balboa Bay Club & Resort

Balboa Bay Club & Resort Rating: 4.0 Pearls

The 160-room Balboa Bay Resort is one of Newport Beach's most upscale properties, and has excellent restaurants, a spa, plenty of meeting facilities, and an Olympic-size swimming pool. Rooms have elegant Mediterranean style, and all come with private balconies. The hotel is under a 10-minute drive to the sand, and has a waterfront location on a marina (part of the exclusive Balboa Bay Club). Just be aware that the resort fees, breakfast fees, and parking fees can add up, and some guests may start to feel nickel and dimed. Still, in Newport, only the Resort at Pelican Hill is more luxurious.
The Ritz-Carlton Laguna Niguel

The Ritz-Carlton Laguna Niguel Rating: 4.0 Pearls

This 396-room luxury hotel sits atop a 150-foot bluff that’s up against a beach, which means breathtaking views from the hotel and grounds, plus a place to surf and boogie board below. With two large pools, a wine bar, and the elegant Raya restaurant, this Ritz has all of the amenities of a big, upscale resort, but with a quiet, relaxing setting.
Laguna Riviera Beach Resort

Laguna Riviera Beach Resort Rating: 3.5 Pearls

The Laguna Riviera is a low-key, family-run resort right on the beach, which gets a good deal of repeat visitors. Many of the rooms look out over the ocean, and some have full kitchens. There's a pool, a game room, and a lending library on-site and a number of shops and cafes within a short walk from the hotel. The lack of on-site restaurant is a drawback, although a free continental breakfast is served daily.
The Pacific Inn

The Pacific Inn Rating: 2.5 Pearls

A short walk from the beach, the family-run Pacific Inn is popular among business travelers and vacationers alike. This budget property is a triangular shape, and has a courtyard pool, an extensive warm breakfast buffet, and simple, slightly dark rooms with mini-fridges and microwaves. There's no restaurant on-site, but the hotel's free shuttle will take guests anywhere they need to go within a five-mile radius, and there are plenty of places to eat within a few blocks of the property.
Bay Shores Peninsula Hotel

Bay Shores Peninsula Hotel Rating: 2.5 Pearls

A short walk to the beach and to local shops and restaurants, the Bay Shores Peninsula Hotel is ideally located for visitors who like to get around on foot. The 25 rooms here are pleasant and have a nautical theme, and there's a large suite with a full kitchen available. Freebies such as breakfast, fresh cookies, Wi-Fi, and loaner beach equipment add value, though the property does lack a pool. The budget hotel has a homey ambiance that's part motel, part B&B.
