Hotel Le Bristol

Hotel Le Bristol Rating: 4.5 Pearls

The 88-room Hotel Le Bristol opened its doors in 1925 during the Roaring Twenties, and today is still one of Paris' best-known luxury hotels. It offers impressive amenities for its small size, including a sunlit indoor pool (a rare find in Paris); a three-Michelin-star restaurant, Epicure; and a lovely spa with three floors featuring a Turkish bath and playroom for kids. Families are welcome in this posh environment: There's a dedicated Children's Programme, and little ones may appreciate the fact that there's a resident cat roaming the hotel. Rooms are elegant, aside from the dated comforters, and very in size and price. The hotel -- located on one of the most high-end shopping streets in Paris -- is steps to the Hermes flagship store, as well as avenue Montaigne and Champs Elysees.

Les Jardins de la Villa

Les Jardins de la Villa Rating: 4.0 Pearls

The 33-room Les Jardins de la Villa is a boutique hotel with contemporary style in a quiet location. Stylish rooms are a good size for Paris standards, and are equipped with great extras such as free on-demand movies, free Wi-Fi, and Nespresso machines. They strike a good balance between practical amenities and fun touches (pops of bright color, avant-garde headboards), and feature luxurious bathrooms with walk-in showers (pricier rooms also have separate soaking tubs). Hotel highlights include the two-person hammam, beautiful winter garden, and convenient honesty bar in the evenings. While breakfast is expensive and the location is a little out of the way, it is a good pick for amenities and style.

Hotel Daniel

Hotel Daniel Rating: 4.0 Pearls

Hotel Daniel is an elegant boutique located between the Champs Elysees and Rue du Fauburg Saint-Honore, two of the most famous streets in Paris. With an abundance of silks, rich fabrics, furniture from around the globe, and hand-painted wallpaper, this small property has charm to spare. The 26 rooms are decent-sized for Paris, and come with great amenities including luxurious bathrooms with big soaking tubs and striking antiques. The restaurant is outstanding (but expensive), and service is top-notch, but there’s little in the way of amenities. Extras -- such as valet parking and breakfast -- are quite pricey.

Hotel Le Dauphin

Hotel Le Dauphin Rating: 3.0 Pearls

This mid-range boutique hotel in the suburb of Puteaux is a good value thanks to its location on the outskirts of Paris. In-the-know repeat guests keep coming back to the calm neighborhood that sits close to the metro for a quick ride into the City of Lights. The hotel's exterior and signage is distinctly purple, but the lobby contains wood furnishings and classic touches that lend a cozy feel. This is where guests can sip free coffee and tea and enjoy a range of international newspapers. During warmer months, the pretty outdoor patio is a great spot for breakfast (served for a fee) or evening aperitifs. The 37 rooms come with either twin or double beds (no suites here), decorated in warm tones and adorned with wall hangings depicting Parisian scenes. Each room has a minibar, flat-screen TV and a special fragrance lamp that can diffuse one of five scents: natural touch, tonic, relaxing, gourmet and sensual. The bathrooms are a fun surprise, as they have contemporary style and special lighting effects in the walk-in showers. Wi-Fi is free.

Hotel du Lion d'Or

Hotel du Lion d'Or Rating: 2.5 Pearls

This 26-room basic but contemporary hotel is a stand-out choice for two reasons: reasonable room rates, and the location! The property is situated in the prime 1st arrondissement of Paris, within steps of Le Louvre and Tuileries Gardens; guests will be hard-pressed to find a more affordable option in this area. Though hotel itself certainly falls into the budget category, it's more modern than some may expect. Rooms are small and lack big hotel amenities, and some show wear and tear (we spotted a small hole in one wall), but they have fresh bedding, flat-screen TVs, small desks, and up-to-date bathrooms. Free Wi-Fi is available, sometimes, and a small business area can assist when it's down (which is often). For more living space, the hotel does offer apartments (studio, large flat and duplex size) that come with lounge/dining areas and full kitchens. This section of the hotel does not have an elevator so be prepared to climb. Guests can start the day with espresso and free newspapers in the stylish breakfast room decorated with exposed stone walls.
