Hotel de la Porte Doree

Hotel de la Porte Doree Rating: 3.5 Pearls

The 43-room Hotel de la Porte Doree is an elegant, homey mid-range hotel located outside of the Paris city center in the 12th arrondissement. The hotel is quiet and charming, with a true Parisian feeling. Loft-like rooms have plush bedding and wood floors, and blend modern amenities (Blu-ray DVD players, iPod docks, free Wi-Fi) with vintage details (gilded mirrors, crown molding). Because this is a boutique, there's not much in the way of property features, but there is a DVD lending library and breakfast buffet (for a fee) served in a cute cafe-style room. The metro, bus, high speed rail, and new tram all stop near the hotel entrance.
Hotel de la Jatte

Hotel de la Jatte Rating: 3.5 Pearls

The 71-room Hotel de la Jatte is a quiet, cozy boutique on the residential island of Grande Jatte. Rooms are comfortable and tastefully decorated with rich orange-red walls and dark wood furniture, and have natural accents such as pressed leaves in the nightstands. But the lack of shower door or curtain means that bathroom can get a little wet, and the sparse property features are limited to an honesty bar and a restaurant. The hotel may be somewhat removed Paris' central hub, but Hotel de la Jatte is charming value option, so long as you don't mind the long walks to the metro stations and to main attractions.
Holiday Inn Paris - Gare De Lyon Bastille

Holiday Inn Paris - Gare De Lyon Bastille Rating: 3.5 Pearls

Considering its Holiday Inn moniker, this 128-room hotel -- set in a beautiful Belle-Époque mansion just minutes from the Gare de Lyon train terminal -- is surprisingly chic. Its proximity to the station makes it super-convenient for getting in and out, as well as around Paris -- though the immediate area can feel a little dingy. Interiors are modern and stylish throughout, managing to eschew the homogenized chain aesthetic. Rooms are spacious and contemporary, and have some fun design touches like striped carpets. Rates are particularly competitive, especially for Paris.
Clarion Collection Hotel Opera Pavillon

Clarion Collection Hotel Opera Pavillon Rating: 3.5 Pearls

There's lots of style packed into this well-priced 30-room boutique hotel. The lobby is streamlined with comfy raspberry tulip chairs, a computer station, and a tiny reception desk. Rooms are also stylish, if a bit simple, and include freebies like sodas and Wi-Fi (although there are complaints that the signal is weak). They are spacious by Parisian standards, but hotel has few common spaces beyond a breakfast room and a small bar.
BLC Design Hotel

BLC Design Hotel Rating: 3.5 Pearls

Geared toward a younger crowd, this all-white 29-room boutique hotel fills a traveler's basic needs for a nice place to crash while visiting Paris. The 11th arrondissement location -- one of the most densely populated urban districts in Europe -- is packed with dining and nightlife, and close to the Notre Dame and Opera de la Bastille, among other sites. The rooms, while on the small side for a Paris boutique hotel, offer comfortable beds and sleek, contemporary design. The bathrooms feature modern fixtures and glass-enclosed walk-in showers -- though some are integrated into the bedrooms and thus lack privacy. The hotel features minimal, modern white design throughout -- which can be considered either sleek and sexy, or cold and harsh, depending on your taste. LCD flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, and a small bar with light eats are the extent of the hotel's amenities -- but for a hip place to call home during your stay, BLC Design Hotel is a good bet.
Standard Design Hotel

Standard Design Hotel Rating: 3.5 Pearls

The 36-room Standard Design Hotel is located in the lively Bastille district. This boutique property features creative, black and white decor in the common lounges, cozy breakfast room, and rooms. A different accent color sets rooms apart from one another, though they all have the same appealing carpets, bedspreads, and light fixtures. The design, convenient location, and free Wi-Fi make the hotel a good value, but don't expect much in the way of amenities -- there is no gym, spa, or on-site restaurant.
Color Design Hotel

Color Design Hotel Rating: 3.5 Pearls

The Color Design Hotel is a trendy boutique option in the Bastille district. The 46 basic, contemporary rooms have flat-screen TVs, comfortable beds, and updated bathrooms. Rooms are small, but the hotel makes the most of the space through interesting design, lighting effects, and creative uses of furniture. Hotel perks include a charming breakfast room in the vaulted basement, free Wi-Fi, and free use of the business center. The Metro is only two blocks away, making it easy to explore the rest of Paris. Bastille is a great area for nightlife and dining, but some visitors might find this property inconveniently located for seeing the sights.
Hotel Les Jardins du Marais

Hotel Les Jardins du Marais Rating: 3.5 Pearls

Les Jardins du Marais is an upper-middle-range hotel, with 205 rooms and 58 suites spread across seven renovated buildings, all overlooking a landscaped garden. Rooms are elegant and sunny, with sleek, pretty furniture and quality linens. The many meeting rooms can make Les Jardins a good choice for business travelers. The Marais neighborhood, with its maze of medieval streets, museums, art galleries, boutiques, and restaurants, sits across the Boulevard Beaumarchais from the hotel, which is within a few minutes' walk to a metro station. Tourists who prefer to stay closer to the Champs-Elysees might check out the smaller Hotel Galileo.
Fred Hotel

Fred Hotel Rating: 3.5 Pearls

The 36-room boutique Fred Hotel offers a slice of chic in a true Parisian neighborhood south of Montparnasse. Rooms are small but smartly appointed, with modern furniture and great art on the walls. Free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, and ample toiletries are nice touches. The hotel is located on a quiet street in a neighborhood of the 14th arrondissement that has retained its village personality, and is studded with restaurants, bars, and shops. It's a three- to five-minute walk to a metro station (Plaisance, Line 13) that connects to the more touristy Paris.
