FireSky Resort And Spa

FireSky Resort And Spa Rating: 4.0 Pearls

A middling motel in downtown Scottsdale turned boutique-style standout by the Kimpton Group, the FireSky "resort" offers something for everyone -- a sandy play space by the pool; free wine during happy hour; a cozy cocktail lounge; a small but sufficient spa; kid-friendly marshmallow roasts; the list goes on. It's crowded for a reason: value.
3 Palms

3 Palms Rating: 3.5 Pearls

The 3 Palms may look like a motel on the outside, but this affordable Scottsdale boutique has tasteful, contemporary rooms, solid freebies (including self-parking and Wi-Fi), and friendly service. The big, heated pool is impressive, and downtown Scottsdale is only a five-minute drive away. The bathrooms are a bit small, though.
Phoenix Place Hotel & Suites

Phoenix Place Hotel & Suites Rating: 3.5 Pearls

This 160-room mid-range hotel is a 10-minute drive from downtown Phoenix and has peaceful, shady grounds with two heated pools, a volleyball court, and a tennis court. But bland rooms are showing wear and tear, and there's not much to do in the immediate area.
Carefree Resort & Conference Center

Carefree Resort & Conference Center Rating: 3.5 Pearls

The Carefree Resort and Conference Center is a landmark in the beautiful Sonoran Desert foothills, with mid-century design, attractive cacti-covered grounds and mountain views. Its mid-range rooms are extremely spacious, but some are starting to show their age (a multi-million dollar renovation of the entire property is currently underway). Still, it's less expensive than other resorts in the area, like Boulders.
Scottsdale Camelback Resort

Scottsdale Camelback Resort Rating: 3.5 Pearls

At the base of Camelback Mountain, the 11-acre property of Scottsdale Camelback Resort delivers amenities and services that eclipse those of nearby competitors in this upper-mid-range price category. This resort offers two pools, a walking path with exercise equipment, tennis and racquetball courts, a spa, a playground, and outdoor grills. The 111 rooms -- technically condos/timeshares -- are very large and individually decorated (style can vary greatly). Studios, two-, and three-bedroom condos have wood-burning fireplaces, balconies, soaking tubs, full kitchens, and laundry facilities. Rooms are clean overall, but some guests have complained about dated spaces and worn paint here and there. There is a pesky fee for Wi-Fi.
Scottsdale Marriott Suites Old Town

Scottsdale Marriott Suites Old Town Rating: 3.5 Pearls

This mid-range, 243-room Marriott is in Old Town Scottsdale, Arizona’s premier arts, shopping, and dining district. Comfortable, contemporary rooms feature flat-screen TVs and iPod docks, but you'll have to pay for parking, breakfast, and in-room Wi-Fi.
SpringHill Suites Phoenix Chandler/Fashion Center

SpringHill Suites Phoenix Chandler/Fashion Center Rating: 3.0 Pearls

This mid-range hotel is located in Chandler, Arizona, across the street from two large shopping areas. A renovation in January 2011 transformed the property, and it’s now colorful and modern inside. It’s got the same free amenities (Wi-Fi, breakfast, self-parking) as its older neighbor, the Marriott Residence Inn, but the SpringHill gets higher marks for its stylish rooms.
Clarion Hotel Scottsdale

Clarion Hotel Scottsdale Rating: 3.0 Pearls

If your priorities are affordable rates and proximity to Old Town Scottsdale, the Clarion is a fine -- if unremarkable -- choice. The basic, clean rooms have motel-style entrances and are cramped by large furniture, but at least there are iPod docks and free Wi-Fi. The spacious pool area is also a highlight. If you'd rather be within walking distance of the Old Town district, consider the Scottsdale Marriott Suites.
Residence Inn Phoenix Chandler/Fashion Center

Residence Inn Phoenix Chandler/Fashion Center Rating: 3.0 Pearls

This unremarkable mid-range hotel in Chandler, across the street from two large malls, is bland all-around, from the exterior to the rooms. But families who don't mind sacrificing style may find the clean, spacious room with kitchens convenient, and the freebies (Wi-Fi, breakfast, evening appetizer reception) make this a good value. Rooms at the SpringHill Suites next door are considerably more modern and appealing, but they're not quite as large, and they have kitchenettes rather than full kitchens.
Radisson Hotel Phoenix Airport

Radisson Hotel Phoenix Airport Rating: 3.0 Pearls

The 210-room Radisson Hotel Phoenix Airport is a seven-story, clean, and modern mid-range hotel located five minutes from the Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport. Rooms are quite spacious but generic in style with coffeemakers, mini-fridges, and granite bathrooms. Hotel amenities include a small fitness room, business center, outdoor heated pool with lounge chairs, and large breakfast room where a free continental breakfast is served every morning. There is also a free shuttle to the airport that runs 24 hours a day. Due to its location, amenities, and value, this hotel is one of the more popular and attractive options in the airport's vicinity.
