Fairmont le Chateau Frontenac

Fairmont le Chateau Frontenac Rating: 4.0 Pearls

The 618-room Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac is a grand and ornate Quebec City landmark. It's housed in a 19th century castle, which was used as a stopover destination for Canadian Pacific Railway riders, and is full of ornate design features, such as a grand double staircase, wood paneling, coffered ceilings, and chandeliers. Rooms are elegant, and some have fantastic river views, but they start at just 175 square feet, and feel a bit less luxurious than those at many other Fairmont properties. They're are still perfectly lovely for a four-pearl hotel, but guests may need to manage their expectations after viewing the much grander exterior. Amenities include a beautiful indoor pool with Jacuzzi, steam rooms, and a fitness center. Le Champlain is a fine dining restaurant with sweeping views, and the St. Laurent Bar has live jazz once a week. Some guests might be turned off by the tourists milling about the lobby, but this is still one of the most luxurious options in Old City.
Times Hotel & Suites

Times Hotel & Suites Rating: 3.5 Pearls

The 111-room Times Hotel & Suites draws business travelers with its location near the Quebec City International Airport. The lobby is decorated with dark hues and has a modern enclosed glass fireplace and comfy black leather chairs. Contemporary rooms feature kitchenettes and free Wi-Fi, and stylish bathrooms have shower/tub combos. Suites come complete with fireplaces and large Jacuzzi tubs. Expect all the amenities of a typical airport hotel here, such as a small fitness center and indoor pool, although both are no better than average for a mid-range property.
Four Points by Sheraton Levis Convention Centre

Four Points by Sheraton Levis Convention Centre Rating: 3.5 Pearls

The Four Points Sheraton Levis Convention Center is a comfortable, stylish place for a business retreat, featuring spacious, modern rooms with great light. Bathrooms are contemporary, and some have appealing soaking tubs and separate walk-in showers. The year-round outdoor heated pool is a nice touch -- though it may not be particularly appealing during Quebec winters. The distance from Quebec City is a bit of a detractor for this hotel, but a shuttle bus to the Old City is available from June through September, and a ferry that connects directly to the Old City is nearby. For a cost effective and stylish way to see the Old City, Four Points is a solid pick.
Hotel Manoir Victoria

Hotel Manoir Victoria Rating: 3.5 Pearls

Hotel Manoir Victoria is an upper-middle-range hotel located in the the Old City. Decor is traditional and matches the historic facade of the hotel. The two highlights here are the indoor saltwater pool, the largest in Old City, and a big, elegant spa. The hotel has one restaurant, La Table du Manoir, for fine dining, and a bistro-style casual restaurant, Chez Boulay--Bistro Boreal, that opened its doors in May 2012. Rooms are spacious, if a bit bland, and feature mini-fridges, iPod docks, and free Wi-Fi. Though the amenities outshine the accommodation, Hotel Manoir Victoria is in a convenient location and offers free valet parking.
Hotel Champlain

Hotel Champlain Rating: 3.5 Pearls

The 50-room Hotel Champlain is in a convenient location in the heart of the Old City. Decor in the spacious rooms is fairly quirky, with striped wallpaper, bright colors, and painted koi fish in the sink, and amenities include plush bedding, mini-fridges, iPod docks, and free Wi-Fi. In some rooms, details such as faux fur blankets, fireplaces, or exposed brick walls make the atmosphere particularly cozy. Views vary; some rooms have fantastic city views, but others face neighboring buildings. Working fireplaces in the lobby and restaurant, a free daily hot breakfast, and free 24-hour cappuccino and espresso add to this boutique property's intimate feel. All in all, it's a great value in the Old City.
Hilton Quebec

Hilton Quebec Rating: 3.5 Pearls

The Hilton Quebec is a high-rise building that is connected to the convention center by an indoor walkway. This fairly typical conference hotel has all the amenities you might expect, including an excellent gym with plentiful cardio machines, an outdoor pool -- that is heated all year long -- and a restaurant with great views. The Old City is located just across the street, placing major sites within an easy walk. Renovated rooms have flat-screen TVs and floor-to-ceiling windows. While Wi-Fi isn't free in the rooms, there is a modern lobby with space to lounge where Wi-Fi is available for no charge.
Hotel Ambassadeur Quebec

Hotel Ambassadeur Quebec Rating: 3.0 Pearls

The Hotel Ambassadeur Quebec is located in Beauport, north of Old Quebec City. This mid-range hotel has a unique setup, with some rooms featuring balconies that overlook an indoor pool set in a large atrium. The pool area has a variety of plants, a Jacuzzi, and a kids' area. Rooms are large and fall into two major categories: renovated and un-renovated. The un-renovated rooms still feature old bedspreads and bland decor. The renovated rooms are a big upgrade, with higher quality bedding, appealing colors, and upscale bathrooms. Suites are even better; some with a fireplace, soaking tub, and huge flat-screen TV. There is a restaurant in the hotel that allows diners to bring their own wine, and both Wi-Fi and parking are free. The cost-saving location outside of Quebec City may appeal to budget travelers.
