Relais & Chateaux Santa Teresa

Relais & Chateaux Santa Teresa Rating: 5.0 Pearls

Relais & Chateaux Santa Teresa is a historic mansion turned luxurious boutique hotel located on a former coffee plantation in Santa Teresa. It features gorgeous tropical decor, which includes bright cabanas in the lounge, lots of lush greenery (by the pool, on the grounds), tiled mosaics, and island-themed bed runners in the rooms. The lower-level rooms aren't quite as upscale as the rest of the hotel, but they do have sleek bathrooms, wood floors, flat-screen TVs, and a light, airy feel. Suites are higher-end, with extras such as four-poster beds of tropical wood, standalone tubs, and shady terraces. The hotel also features a gorgeous spa, a rooftop pool with sweeping views of the city, and a restaurant serving delicious French-influenced Brazilian cuisine.
Marina All Suites

Marina All Suites Rating: 4.0 Pearls

The Marina All Suites is an upscale property with 39 one-bedroom suites in the desirable Leblon neighborhood of Rio De Janeiro. With fancy restaurants and shops in the neighborhood and Ipanema-Leblon Beach across the street, the hotel is well-situated for tourists. Decor is wonderfully colorful, modern, and funky, especially in the on-site bistro and bar. Suites are spacious and colorful, and all have large flat-screen TVs and coffeemakers; some have kitchenettes. The rooftop pool has incredible views and a unique design, and breakfast gets high marks.
Casa Mosquito

Casa Mosquito Rating: 3.5 Pearls

Casa Mosquito offers a quiet hideaway on the slopes of Ipanema, within walking distance of the world-famous beaches of Copacabana and Ipanema. It has only nine spacious, bright suites decorated in a mix of colonial, modern, and contemporary styles. All rooms have balconies with spectacular Rio de Janeiro views of Sugar Loaf Mountain, the Twin Peaks, and the coast. While the small, intimate hotel is certainly charming, it lacks some of the amenities common to larger properties, and has neither a gym nor 24-hour room service.
Casa Cool Beans B&B - Santa Teresa

Casa Cool Beans B&B - Santa Teresa Rating: 3.0 Pearls

The 10-room Casa Cool Beans is a quaint, colorful bed and breakfast in the Santa Teresa district of Rio De Janeiro. The mid-range inn is unique and welcoming, with a lovely pool and plenty of open-air space for relaxing and enjoying the sunshine. Rooms are simple, but spacious and decorated with vibrant art by local artists. Wi-Fi and breakfast are free, and as guests must be 18 or older, the property tends to appeal to international couples and single travelers. Santa Teresa is an older, cobblestoned part of town, known for its art and history. It's a lovely place to explore, but it's not the safest place to walk around at night. Guests seeking a more centrally located property could try the Windsor Martinique Hotel.
Casa Beleza

Casa Beleza Rating: 3.0 Pearls

The three-pearl Casa Beleza offers a tropical hideaway from the sometimes overwhelming and crowded beach scene of Copacabana and Ipanema. It's located in the bohemian Art District of Santa Teresa, often called the Montmarte of Rio. The mansion was built in the 1930s and was once a former residence of the governor of Rio de Janeiro. Today, the guesthouse offers four well-decorated guest rooms. The owners live at the main building and they are helpful and knowledgeable about the local tourist, music, and art scene. The house is surrounded by a lush tropical garden with occasional parrots, toucans, and monkeys passing by the outdoor swimming pool. Free breakfast and Wi-Fi helps to keep costs low.
Villa Laurinda

Villa Laurinda Rating: 3.0 Pearls

Villa Laurinda is a stylish and romantic bed-and-breakfast in the bohemian Santa Teresa district of Rio de Janeiro. The mid-range property was originally built in 1888 and has been lovingly restored by an artistic Brazilian and Swiss couple. The villa itself is surrounded by a lush tropical garden and has a good size swimming pool. Four fan-cooled rooms (with shared bathrooms) and four suites (with private bathrooms) are available. Breakfast is included in the room rate and free Wi-Fi is available throughout. This is an excellent choice for couples who want to save money but avoid the hostel scene.
Bossa in Rio Hostel

Bossa in Rio Hostel Rating: 2.0 Pearls

The Bossa in Rio is a popular hostel in the bohemian Santa Teresa district, a 10-minute walk from the vibrant Lapa area in Centro. It's housed in a mansion dating back to 1916 (with a recently built, modern annex). Clean, comfortable dorm rooms are available, and the hostel also has roomier private suites with high ceilings, some with balconies that look out on Centro and the Guanabara Bay. There's also a lobby with a clean, well-equipped communal kitchen and both breakfast and Wi-Fi are free. However, guests should be prepared to climb a lot of steps, as there's no elevator.
