The Grand America Hotel

The Grand America Hotel Rating: 5.0 Pearls

This 775-room property is the most luxurious in Salt Lake City, and offers guests old-world charm on a grand scale. Its classic style is characterized by warm wood paneling, Italian marble accents, Venetian chandeliers, and wrought iron or white balustrade balconies that overlook well-groomed courtyards. Big rooms are traditional and sophisticated (if in need of some updating) and the decadent marble bathrooms are a highlight. The amenities live up to the standard set by the rest of the hotel: The fitness center is large and modern, the pools are lovely, and the spa is one of the best in the area.
DoubleTree Suites by Hilton Hotel Salt Lake City

DoubleTree Suites by Hilton Hotel Salt Lake City Rating: 4.0 Pearls

This all-suite DoubleTree offers a comfortable, classy option for either business or leisure travelers wanting to stay in downtown Salt Lake City. The 241 suites, situated around an open atrium, have mini-fridges, microwaves, coffeemakers, and work desks, as well as two flat-screen TVs each. The property offers ample meeting space, an indoor pool, and a restaurant and bar -- plus free Wi-Fi and cookies. Prices are comparable to similar upscale properties nearby, although the hot breakfast buffet isn’t included here. The free shuttle to the airport and nearby attractions is a nice bonus.
The Peery Hotel

The Peery Hotel Rating: 3.5 Pearls

The main draw of this quaint, historic hotel is its downtown location, within walking distance of restaurants, shops, and tourist attractions. Rooms have old tube TVs and some are on the small side, but they're clean and have some nice upscale touches: Tempur-Pedic beds with quality linens and romantic white canopies, iPod docks, and Gilchrist & Soames toiletries. It's still a mid-range hotel at heart, and most of the decor reflects that, but it's got a bit more charm than some competing properties in the area. All in all, it's a solid downtown pick for the price.
Salt Lake Plaza Hotel at Temple Square

Salt Lake Plaza Hotel at Temple Square Rating: 3.0 Pearls

This 150-room hotel is a solid value, located right on Temple Square and within walking distance of numerous attractions. The rooms are bland and utilitarian, but big, with microwaves and mini-fridges that help guests save money on food, as well as flat-screen TVs and free Wi-Fi. The decent outdoor pool and kid-friendly diner make it a fine choice for families, and its proximity to the convention center makes it popular with business travelers as well.
Crystal Inn Hotel & Suites Salt Lake City - Downtown

Crystal Inn Hotel & Suites Salt Lake City - Downtown Rating: 2.5 Pearls

With an indoor pool, a free airport shuttle, and a convenient location within walking distance of downtown attractions, the 175-room Crystal Inn is a great value and a solid choice for families or business travelers. Guest rooms are clean and spacious, with coffeemakers, microwaves, and mini-fridges, but a bit bland and dated. The free breakfast buffet includes hot eggs and bacon, and Wi-Fi is free throughout -- though can be slow in some rooms.
