Four Seasons Resort Rancho Encantado

Four Seasons Resort Rancho Encantado Rating: 5.0 Pearls

The 5-pearl, 65-room Rancho Encantado sits in a secluded spot a few miles north of Santa Fe with great views of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. Big, luxurious rooms are decorated in a modern Southwestern style, featuring concrete and wood floors, Native American-style rugs, and a color scheme or warm browns and oranges, as well as high-end extras such as radiant floor heating, wood-burning fireplaces, and private patios. The fine dining at Terra restaurant is rated highly, and the resort also features an outdoor seasonal pool, Jacuzzi, luxury spa, and even free rentals of a Mercedes Benz for the day. But some guests have complained of noise in first-floor rooms from second-floor foot traffic, and though the location is beautiful, it's a 20-minute drive from Santa Fe Plaza, the city's shopping and cultural center.
Rosewood Inn of the Anasazi

Rosewood Inn of the Anasazi Rating: 4.5 Pearls

The luxurious Rosewood Inn, which underwent a major renovation in 2008, is one of Santa Fe’s most desirable hotels. It has an ideal location right by the Santa Fe Plaza, the city's cultural center. Big rooms have charming Southwestern style, with wood floors, beamed ceilings, kiva-style fireplaces, and lots of Native American and regional artwork. The Anasazi Restaurant is one of Santa Fe’s best, and serves Southwestern-influenced American cuisine using fresh, local ingredients. There's no pool or fitness center, though, so those who want more amenities may consider the nearby Inn and Spa at Loretto.
The Inn of the Five Graces

The Inn of the Five Graces Rating: 4.5 Pearls

The 24-room The Inn of the Five Graces is one of America's most extraordinary small luxury inns. Situated on a quiet side street a five-minute walk from Santa Fe Plaza, the inn is housed in a series of stone and adobe buildings, some of them dating from the 1600s. The interiors feature an east-meets-west decorative style with a superb and thoughtfully chosen collection of art and antiques from the Southwest, Latin America, the Middle East, and Asia. Service is warm, gracious, and unobtrusive. Unlike some of its Santa Fe luxury hotel competitors, the inn has no swimming pool, hot tub, or sauna, but it does offer an outstanding full-service spa with Indian-style treatments. Guests enjoy a free cooked-to-order breakfast in the morning and free snacks and drinks in the afternoon. Rooms are lavish and come with authentic kiva fireplaces, plush featherbeds, and deep soaking tubs. The Inn of the Five Graces is among the most expensive hotels in Santa Fe -- but for good reason.
Inn and Spa at Loretto

Inn and Spa at Loretto Rating: 4.0 Pearls

This upscale property has a long-standing reputation as one of the finer inns in Santa Fe. A historic chapel adjoins the hotel, the location by the Plaza can't be beat, and the decor is classic southwestern. Highlights include the stylish Luminaria Restaurant that is renowned for its fresh, organic cuisine, and The Spa at Loretto, popular for its varied array of treatments. Rooms have a warm, earthy feel and offer high-tech amenities such as flat-screen TVs and iPod docks, but some are on the small side.
Hotel St. Francis

Hotel St. Francis Rating: 4.0 Pearls

The 81-room upscale boutique, housed in a historic building two blocks the Santa Fe Plaza, underwent a complete renovation in 2011 and now features simple, mission-style decor inspired by the principles of St. Francis of Assisi. The elegant, minimalist rooms have original wood floors, sturdy wood furniture made by local artisans, and a color scheme of gray and white -- but, as in many historic buildings, they're small. The hotel features a fine dining restaurant serving New Mexican cuisine, as well as a bar with outdoor seating available offering appetizers and cocktails. But there’s no pool or Jacuzzi, and guests will have to pay a daily fee for parking. If a pool is a priority, consider the nearby Inn and Spa at Loretto.
La Posada de Santa Fe Resort & Spa

La Posada de Santa Fe Resort & Spa Rating: 4.0 Pearls

The 4-pearl La Posada de Santa Fe is over a hundred years old, making it one of the the city’s longest-standing inns. It has an excellent location near Santa Fe Plaza, and features attractive Southwestern decor throughout. Its 157 rooms have beamed ceilings, coral throws, regional art, and modern tech features; some have patios or kiva-style fireplaces. The upscale Fuego Restaurant earns high marks, and a curator on staff oversees the hotel's $1 million in local art. The property features are impressive: There's a day spa, an outdoor pool and Jacuzzi, afternoon tea and cookies, and an outdoor fire where evening s'mores are served. Some rooms are small, however, and there's a nightly resort fee.
Eldorado Hotel & Spa

Eldorado Hotel & Spa Rating: 4.0 Pearls

The business-friendly four-pearl Eldorado offers the convenience of being just two blocks from the Plaza, plus some great features such as a fine dining restaurant, a top-notch spa, and some of the largest business facilities in town. But while the Southwestern-themed rooms are attractive and clean, they are showing some wear.
The Hacienda & Spa at Hotel Santa Fe

The Hacienda & Spa at Hotel Santa Fe Rating: 3.5 Pearls

The four-pearl Hacienda at Hotel Santa Fe delivers a private, gorgeous retreat on four gorgeous acres -- just six blocks from the Plaza. The Hacienda is the more upscale section of the Hotel Santa Fe, the only hotel in town owned by Native Americans, and the extensive display of Native art gives the public areas a gallery feel. The suites are large and luxurious -- but the "butler service" that separates the Hacienda from the rest of the hotel is far from private -- you'll share just a few butlers with the other 35 guests.
