Andaz Savannah

Andaz Savannah Rating: 4.0 Pearls

The 151-room Andaz Savannah, formerly the AVIA Savannah, is an attractive, modern hotel just a block from the river. Though standard rooms are small, all rooms have up-to-date amenities including large flat-screen TVs, iPod docks, and free Wi-Fi. They also have stylish decor not often found in a chain, such as bold-patterned furniture in rich fabrics, and dark wood nightstands topped by funky lamps. The hotel also features a 24-hour fitness center, a tasty restaurant, and a small pool area with cabanas (too bad the view from the pool is of the building next door). One of the big draws here is the property's great location, as it is situated in Savannah's popular Historic District.
The Westin Savannah Harbor Golf Resort & Spa

The Westin Savannah Harbor Golf Resort & Spa Rating: 4.0 Pearls

The 403-room Westin Savannah is an upper-middle-range resort located on an island across the river from Savannah’s Historic District. The main draws here are the PGA golf course and the high-end spa, but there are other features that make this a great pick: a large pool, two solid restaurants, spacious rooms with high-end amenities (and most with great views of the city), and dozens of activities available daily for the whole family. It's true that the location is secluded, but there’s a free ferry that takes guests to the lively riverfront area (a quick ride straight across the river from the resort).
Hilton Savannah DeSoto

Hilton Savannah DeSoto Rating: 3.5 Pearls

The 246-room Hilton Savannah DeSoto places visitors within walking distance from many popular attractions, bars, and restaurants. The newly-renovated DeSoto Grille delivers a luxurious Southern vibe, with tall ceilings and large chandeliers; however, the rest of the hotel lacks the sought-after Historic District charm. Instead, the Hilton Savannah DeSoto offers guests comfortable but chain-like rooms with so-so "Savannah" touches, such as framed photos of the city on the walls. The rooms on higher levels have excellent views of the city.
Savannah Marriott Riverfront

Savannah Marriott Riverfront Rating: 3.5 Pearls

This upper-middle-range property sticks out as a bland chain hotel in a city known for historic charm. The rooms look updated and are clean, but have generic decor and clashing carpet patterns. Many look out into the enclosed courtyard that bizarrely houses both the lobby and the indoor pool. The hotel is within walking distance of shops, restaurants, and museums, as well as a nearby ferry that connects guests to golfing and the convention center. Travelers looking for a more authentic Savannah experience may want to try the nearby Planters Inn.
Hyatt Regency Savannah

Hyatt Regency Savannah Rating: 3.5 Pearls

The 351-room Hyatt Regency's highlight is its location in the Historic District: within walking distance of numerous museums and restaurants and overlooking the Savannah River. Rooms are sleek, with dark wood accents, iPod docks, and flat-screen TVs; many rooms have river or city views, but some look into the lobby with no outside view, making them feel more low-brow and dreary. The bathrooms in standard rooms are small, but rooms in general are a good size, and the on-site restaurant, coffee shop, and fitness center are convenient.
B Historic

B Historic Rating: 3.0 Pearls

After renovations in 2014 and 2015, this former Country Inn & Suites emerged as an airy, stylish hotel that brings Southern hospitality into the 21st century. The traditional style has a contemporary edge, and spacious rooms have signature B Hotels bedding and mini-fridges (but no coffeemakers or microwaves). The hotel is located in a quiet area on the outskirts on the Historic District, but it's still within walking distance of major attractions. Features include an indoor pool and a gym (though they're both small), and the free breakfast includes hot options. Guests may also want to compare rates with the Holiday Inn Express Savannah-Historic District, which has a more central location, bigger pool, and more room amenities.
Holiday Inn Express Savannah-Historic District

Holiday Inn Express Savannah-Historic District Rating: 3.0 Pearls

The Holiday Inn Express Savannah Historic District exceeds expectations for a value hotel and offers more Southern charm and historic character than most Holiday Inn Express properties. The hotel is located within walking distance to some of the most popular cafes and shops in the historic district. Crowning the seven-story brick building, the rooftop pool deck has panoramic views of the Savannah River and Hutchinson Island. A cozy, fireside bar near the lobby is a gathering place for both locals and hotel guests.
Oglethorpe Inn & Suites

Oglethorpe Inn & Suites Rating: 2.5 Pearls

This budget hotel gleans high marks from customers for value. Its free continental breakfast, parking, and Wi-Fi are high on the list of perks in a property that offers lower prices than competitors in the popular downtown historic district. Of course the tradeoff is a less advantageous location; the Oglethorpe is in midtown Savannah, a semi-suburban area populated by chain stores. The 52 rooms are on the uninspired side, offering basics with industrial carpeting and standard-issue tubs. However, guests generally rave about the friendly service and have few complaints about cleanliness or comfort.
