Cotton Bay Village

Cotton Bay Village Rating: 4.5 Pearls

Quiet, sophisticated, and stylish, this luxury resort doesn't skimp on amenities -- it boasts a beautiful Olympic-size pool, an exceptional spa and fitness center, an extensive kids’ club, and a secluded beachfront with open-air restaurant and lounge. The resort’s 49 stately residences range from sizable one-bedroom apartments to four-bedroom villas of impressive proportions -- each with a private balcony or terrace and a full kitchen. This is a great choice for families, given the spacious accommodations and many children's perks, but couples will feel relaxed here too, as it is not overrun with loud children.

Windjammer Landing Villa and Beach Resort & Spa

Windjammer Landing Villa and Beach Resort & Spa Rating: 4.0 Pearls

This upscale Mediterranean-style hillside beach resort on St. Lucia’s northern west coast is brimming with amenities: six pools, five restaurants, three bars, tennis, tons of water sports, a spa, and more than 1,500 feet of beachfront. A broad variety of room types fits nearly every budget, and a packed roster of daily activities appeals to virtually every kind of traveler. It's a good pick for families, as villas have up to four bedrooms and there is both a kids club and a teen center on the property. Although the 60-acre grounds special are steep and sprawling, free 24-hour shuttles chauffeur guests wishing to forgo the arduous walks around the property.

Stonefield Estate Villa Resort & Spa

Stonefield Estate Villa Resort & Spa Rating: 4.0 Pearls

Stonefield Estate Villa is a rustic, upscale resort with 18 plantation-style villas set on 26 acres of gorgeous rainforest. Amenities include an exceptional spa, a cliff-top pool, and an open-air restaurant and bar. The property is deliberately unplugged -- meaning villas lack TVs, Wi-Fi, and telephones -- but the stunning atmosphere, and the villas themselves, are worth it for those who can go technology free for a while. The villas are quite spacious, with separate living areas, dining spaces, bedrooms, and kitchens or kitchenettes. And the bathrooms feature an outdoor/indoor shower. The best part, though, may be the private terrace connected to each villa, with a private pool -- and can't-be-beat views of Petit Piton. The only potential drawback for some may be the lack of beach access, but the hotel provides free shuttle to and from a couple of nearby beaches.

Coco Palm Resort

Coco Palm Resort Rating: 3.5 Pearls

Coco Palm is an 83-room budget-oriented boutique hotel with style and service you'd expect at higher priced, beachfront hotels. It features a huge free-form pool, French Caribbean style decor, and the option to book with or without an all-inclusive plan. Rooms are cheerful and tropical, and some have terraces with pool access. While not on the ocean, it is a short walk to Reduit Beach and close to the amenities of Rodney Bay Village, St. Lucia's entertainment district.

St. James's Club Morgan Bay

St. James's Club Morgan Bay Rating: 3.5 Pearls

The St. James's Club Morgan Bay is a family-friendly, 22-acre property in St Lucia. With four pools, five restaurants, six bars, an excellent kids' club, and an extensive water sports pavilion, this is one of the most amenity-rich resorts on the island. While some guests might appreciate the minimalist rooms, others might find them dull, and bathrooms are small. Beyond the generic furnishings, all 345 units feature private balconies with full or partial ocean views. Most appealing of all are the resort's all-inclusive rates, which are virtually unbeatable across the entire island.

Smugglers Cove Resort & Spa

Smugglers Cove Resort & Spa Rating: 3.5 Pearls

Located on the northern part of St. Lucia on a private cove with brown-sugar sand, Smuggler's Cove is an all-inclusive budget-oriented resort in need of renovation. About 350 single-story attached rooms and suites are spread across the sprawling 45-acre property, offering glimpses of the ocean and gardens from outdoor terraces. Seven pools (two just for adults) keep families and couples occupied, while the crescent-shaped beach, crowded with worn lounge chairs, offers calm waters for water sports and swimming.

Bay Gardens Hotel

Bay Gardens Hotel Rating: 3.0 Pearls

The 87-room Bay Gardens Hotel is one of the cheapest full-service hotel options in Rodney Bay -- and on the entire island of St. Lucia. But there's no gym or spa, and the property’s two pools, restaurant, and grounds are noticeably dated. The rooms are no better, with outmoded technology and tacky decor. However, those looking for incredibly low rates -- not to mention the ability to access tons of amenities via the free shuttle that takes guests to nearby Bay Gardens Beach Resort -- will be hard-pressed to find a better deal.

The Still Beach House

The Still Beach House Rating: 3.0 Pearls

This budget-friendly five-room inn along Soufriere Bay has no gym, no spa, and no pool -- in fact, the only extras are direct access to a subpar public beach and a breezy restaurant and bar. Rooms are average in virtually every way, except for the incredible views of Petit Piton, which appears at arm’s length from every room's private balcony. Travelers looking to be pampered should head elsewhere, but adventurous couples and families on a budget will find the Still Beach House’s location exceptional and its accommodations satisfactory. Vegetarian meals are cooked upon request, and a good variety of options exist for all meals. Plus, the inn is within walking distance to Soufriere, so there's lots of local flavor to be found.

Ginger Lily Hotel

Ginger Lily Hotel Rating: 3.0 Pearls

Located along Reduit Beach in lively Rodney Bay, the mid-range Ginger Lily Hotel is a decent place to stay, if not packed with amenities. The 11 charming rooms feature a good amount of space, kitchenettes, patio hammocks, and jalousie-style shutters, the grounds are lush, and the pool is pretty (but small). And, well, that's about it. There's no fitness center or spa, and the restaurant serves breakfast only (and drinks). But the beach is just across the street, and there are tons of shops, restaurants, and bars in the immediate vicinity. Travelers looking for solid, comfortable, affordable accommodations in a really great location should consider this option.

Marigot Beach Club

Marigot Beach Club Rating: 2.5 Pearls

Located on a remote peninsula accessible only by ferry, this laid-back, 32-room beach resort in Marigot Bay is an affordable option for both families and couples with an interest in water sports and lazing on the beach. Many areas of this property show their age -- from the small, unkempt pool, to the rooms that feature dated decor -- but unpretentious travelers with a focus on the outdoors will certainly find the prices hard to beat, especially considering the number of amenities offered here (though they're subpar).
