Four Seasons Resort Vail

Four Seasons Resort Vail Rating: 5.0 Pearls

The Four Seasons Vail opened in 2011, and is one of the area’s top hotels. All the rooms have warm colors, stone fireplaces, balconies, and huge marble bathrooms with standalone soaking tubs, and almost every amenity impresses, particularly the upscale spa (one of the best in Vail Valley) and lovely outdoor pool area. But it's not directly on the slopes -- guests face a 10-minute walk, or a short hotel shuttle ride.
The Sebastian - Vail

The Sebastian - Vail Rating: 4.5 Pearls

This luxury boutique resort opened in Vail in 2010, and prices are often more than fair for what you get: Beautiful, high-end mountain decor, particularly in the airy lobby and cozy library (no cabin kitsch here); two great restaurants, including the organic tapas bistro Leonora, plus a chic lounge; an outdoor pool; four Jacuzzis; and an upscale spa. But the standard Deluxe Plaza rooms are on the small side, and feel like a bit of a letdown after the gorgeous public spaces. The location right off I-70 could also be a little better: It's within walking distance of Vail Village, the slopes, and the hotel's own Base Camp (with ski rentals and a cafe), but it's not right in the heart of anything.
The Arrabelle at Vail Square, a RockResort

The Arrabelle at Vail Square, a RockResort Rating: 4.5 Pearls

This rustic-luxe, chalet-inspired lodge is one of Vail's premier options, with a location in the heart of Vail Square, near the Eagle Bahn lift. The 62 luxurious rooms feature massive bathrooms, stone fireplaces, and scenic balconies, and both the lavish spa and rooftop lap pool pack serious wow factor.
The Ritz-Carlton Residences, Vail

The Ritz-Carlton Residences, Vail Rating: 4.5 Pearls

The Ritz-Carlton Residences are easily among the most luxurious private condo rentals in Vail Valley. The amenities are top-of-the-line: the large, year-round outdoor pool; the modern, upscale fitness center; the cozy library; and the elegant, lodge-style great room with a bar and fireplace. The huge, privately owned condos come with stainless steel kitchens, balconies (in many) with views of the pool or mountains, and gorgeous marble bathrooms with decadent soaking tubs and separate walk-in showers. In addition, the property has bell service and 24-hour maintenance.
Vail Cascade Resort & Spa

Vail Cascade Resort & Spa Rating: 4.0 Pearls

With a beautiful creek-side setting and a private ski lift, the Vail Cascade Resort & Spa is a great overnight choice for those looking to get away and relax with all the amenities of an upscale hotel. Highlights include a beautiful infinity pool with adjacent fire pits and a 78,000-square-foot fitness center and spa. There is plenty to do at the resort, but it is in a somewhat removed location that is not truly walking distance to any of the Vail Villages.
The Lodge at Vail -- A RockResort

The Lodge at Vail -- A RockResort Rating: 4.0 Pearls

One of the Lodge's best assets is its location right in Vail Village, two minutes from the closest ski lift. It's got some great features -- an on-site spa, a huge, modern 24-hour fitness center, two outdoor pools and six Jacuzzis -- but it is an older building and in need of some updating. Rooms in the luxury wing have fresher decor (including rustic details such as wood beams or stone fireplaces) and air conditioning, but other rooms lack air conditioning, are a bit small for the price, and are showing their age.
Vail Mountain Lodge & Spa

Vail Mountain Lodge & Spa Rating: 4.0 Pearls

The upscale, 28-room Vail Mountain Lodge and Spa is located in a serene, creek-side spot in Vail Village, close to the Bahn ski lift. Its rooms, outfitted in understated mountain decor, have nice extras -- namely, plush beds, gas fireplaces, and deep soaking tubs. Its huge, modern fitness center is one of the best in Vail Valley, and the spa is impressive as well -- both pleasant surprises for a hotel this small. (The 25-room Austria Haus, by contrast, has no spa and a tiny, windowless fitness center.) In addition, the excellent, organic Terra Bistro is a favorite with locals as well as guests, and provides free hot breakfasts.
