Shangri-La Hotel, Vancouver

Shangri-La Hotel, Vancouver Rating: 5.0 Pearls

The Shangri-La offers uber-luxe digs in Downtown Vancouver. Catering to the business traveler (mainly due to its location), the hotel's large rooms feature free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs with DVR, bedside controls for curtains and lights, and floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking downtown. But the massive granite-and-marble bathrooms are the real highlight, featuring separate showers and tubs, as well as flat-screen TVs. The hotel also has a Jean-Georges restaurant and a hip spa, both of which are extremely pricey and only add to the hype.
Rosewood Hotel Georgia

Rosewood Hotel Georgia Rating: 5.0 Pearls

The Rosewood Hotel Georgia is a historic property with a downtown Vancouver location. The 156 rooms and suites are luxurious and sophisticated, with plush furnishings, huge flat-screen TVs, and massive marble bathrooms with heated floors. Bathrooms are a real perk at this hotel, as all have huge walk-in showers and deep soaking tubs. Though the hotel first opened in 1927, it has modern touches including free Wi-Fi and iPod docks. Property highlights include a funky indoor pool, modern fitness center, rooftop alfresco lounge, and 24-hour room service. This pet-friendly property also has a central location for exploring downtown Vancouver's main attractions.
Loden Hotel

Loden Hotel Rating: 4.5 Pearls

This 77-room luxury boutique has a modern, stylish feel, with a glam lobby (think: velvet couches, dark wood ceilings, and a stunning black-and-white granite fireplace surround) and a popular French bistro. The large, sleek rooms may be the highlight, with subtle earth tones, floor-to-ceiling windows, and decadent marble bathrooms, but the Downtown Vancouver location is convenient as well. The only real downsides are the extra fees for valet parking and Wi-Fi.
Wedgewood Hotel & Spa

Wedgewood Hotel & Spa Rating: 4.5 Pearls

The Wedgewood Hotel & Spa is a luxury boutique hotel with a gorgeous lobby and 83 beautiful rooms. It's located near the shopping and entertainment center of Vancouver and within walking distance of the Vancouver Convention Centre and plenty of restaurants. There's an upscale French restaurant and lounge on-site with an elegant dining room. There’s also a small fitness center and a spa, but no pool. Guests looking for an outdoor pool may want to check out the Westin Bayshore instead.
The Georgian Court Hotel

The Georgian Court Hotel Rating: 4.0 Pearls

The upscale, 180-room Georgian Court Hotel is on the edge of Downtown Vancouver, within walking distance of numerous Vancouver attractions. Rooms are large and contemporary, if a tad generic, with flat-screen TVs and mahogany accents, and a special women's-only floor (known as the Orchid Floor) is available, with rooms that include curling irons, flat irons, yoga mats, and fashion magazines for no extra fee. The fitness center is small, and other downtown hotels are more centrally located, but the hotel provides a free shuttle to downtown sites.
Metropolitan Hotel Vancouver

Metropolitan Hotel Vancouver Rating: 4.0 Pearls

The service bonuses are delightful at the Metropolitan Hotel, from turndown service to free newspapers to morning limo rides in the hotel’s Jaguar. It doesn’t hurt that the two resident restaurants offer delicious and varied dishes (upscale Chinese; creative continental), and that the waterfront and downtown mall are within a five-minute walk. It might not be as shiny as the Four Seasons across the street, but the Met is a great upscale value for the neighborhood, especially for adult guests of the touring or business variety.
Opus Hotel

Opus Hotel Rating: 4.0 Pearls

An edgy four-pearl property in Yaletown, Opus Hotel has 96 themed rooms with bold decor and modern conveniences such as iPads and, in some rooms, smartphones. The hotel has a popular Italian restaurant with an extensive wine list and a swanky lounge with plush pink and purple chairs. The modern fitness center includes a variety of machines and hand weights, and is stocked with free water and apples. Pets are so welcome, they get walked for free. Those wanting to be closer to downtown may prefer the Pan Pacific Hotel, which has amazing views of the harbor.
The Fairmont Hotel Vancouver

The Fairmont Hotel Vancouver Rating: 4.0 Pearls

This elegant 557-room hotel is housed in a historic building across from the Vancouver Art Gallery, in the heart of Downtown. The gorgeous indoor pool, the excellent Griffins Restaurant, and the big, modern fitness center make this property a reliable upscale pick. But some rooms are dated, bathrooms are nothing special, and guests might feel nickel-and-dimed due to the number of extra charges, including the fees for water bottles in the rooms, parking, and Wi-Fi.
Hotel Le Soleil

Hotel Le Soleil Rating: 4.0 Pearls

Hotel Le Soleil is a luxury chain property located on a quiet street in Vancouver's bustling Financial District. Couples and business travelers choose the hotel for its elegant and refined French styling, on-site bar and restaurant, and comfortable suites equipped with Keurig coffeemakers and marble bathrooms. Fees for breakfast and parking can add up, although Wi-Fi is free. Compare rates at The Georgian Court Hotel for a boutique upscale experience and many of the same features.
Auberge Vancouver Hotel

Auberge Vancouver Hotel Rating: 4.0 Pearls

The Auberge Vancouver Hotel is a 60-room property located in the northeastern side of Downtown Vancouver, close to the waterfront and the Convention Center. Rooms have modern amenities (such as flat-screen TVs and iPod docks), fully equipped kitchenettes, and in many cases, stunning views. The decor features a few contemporary touches, but overall it's more run-of-the-mill than one might expect from a property that advertises itself as a luxury boutique. The high points of the hotel are the rooftop terrace with beautiful mountain and city views, the bright fitness center, and a wonderful indoor pool with sweeping views and a skylight.
