Hilton Virginia Beach Oceanfront

Hilton Virginia Beach Oceanfront Rating: 4.0 Pearls

One of the larger and snazzier hotels in town, the 289-room Hilton Virginia Beach is a centrally located beachfront hotel with lots of amenities for leisure and business travelers. Most of the chain-like rooms have beach-facing balconies. There are two pools, one of which is a rooftop infinity pool with great views, two upscale restaurants, and a bar. That said, there are fees for Wi-Fi (unless guests are Hilton Honors members) and parking, both of which are free at most other hotels in town.
Four Sails Resort

Four Sails Resort Rating: 3.0 Pearls

Overlooking the Virginia Beach boardwalk, the Four Sails Resort is a low-cost time-share property made up of condo-style units, each with its own whirlpool tub. There's an indoor heated pool, an exercise room with a sauna, and a restaurant serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The hotel's central location and low room rates make it a good choice for budget travelers who want a full kitchen, but guests who can make do with a kitchenette would be better off at the prettier Belvedere Beach Resort just up the road.
Hampton Inn Virginia Beach Oceanfront North

Hampton Inn Virginia Beach Oceanfront North Rating: 3.0 Pearls

North Virginia Beach's 120-room Hampton Inn is a reliable mid-range choice for travelers who want a central location on the ocean and don't plan to cook their own meals. Rooms have balconies or patios with ocean views, and Wi-Fi is free. There's also free on-site parking, and a hot breakfast is included in room rate. There's also a small pool with a whirlpool and a tiny gym with modern equipment that are both open 24/7, as well as a restaurant that has concerts in the summertime.
Holiday Inn & Suites North Beach

Holiday Inn & Suites North Beach Rating: 3.0 Pearls

At the northern end of the Virginia Beach boardwalk, the oceanside Holiday Inn & Suites North Beach is a mid-range hotel with resort-style amenities. There are three pools, three restaurants, and a kids' club, making it a popular choice with family vacationers. Rooms are colorful and have a nautical theme; suites come outfitted with kitchenettes. It's a great place for kids, but adults looking for something a bit quieter might want to consider the nearby Comfort Inn & Suites Oceanfront as a slightly more grown-up alternative.
Ocean Key Resort

Ocean Key Resort Rating: 2.5 Pearls

Situated at the southern end of Virginia Beach's main strip, on the boardwalk over the beach, the 142-room Ocean Key Resort is a timeshare hotel with a lot of family-focused amenities. Suite-style rooms have equipped kitchens or kitchenettes, and groceries can be pre-ordered online and delivered at check-in. One of the highlights of the property is the third-floor activity area, which includes a fitness center, arcade games, and a play area with games and toys for kids. There's also a roof sun deck with a lounge area and a large indoor pool in an atrium-like area connected to the lobby. Some guests complain of musty smells, as the windows don't open, and others find rooms not as clean as they could be, but the price is pretty low for the area.
Belvedere Beach Resort

Belvedere Beach Resort Rating: 2.5 Pearls

Popular with budget-conscious visitors to Virginia Beach, the Belvedere Beach Resort is more of an inn than an actual resort, though it does have a pool and direct beach access. All 50 rooms have a nautical theme and look out over the ocean. There's an on-site diner serving breakfast and lunch, and rooms have mini-fridges and microwaves for guests who want to prepare basic meals. It's open only seven months out of the year, however, so budget travelers visiting in the winter should check out the mid-range Holiday Inn nearby.
Comfort Inn & Suites Oceanfront

Comfort Inn & Suites Oceanfront Rating: 2.5 Pearls

The 83-room Comfort Inn is a typical mid-range hotel by Virginia Beach standards. Common areas are a bit drab looking -- even the indoor pool area, which boasts ocean views, can be somewhat dreary as the windows are often too fogged up to see through. But the rooms here, if not up to modern decor standards, are cheery with bright, floral curtains and colorful furniture. All feature small balconies overlooking the ocean as well as living areas (many with pull-out sofas), microwaves, mini-fridges, coffeemakers, wet bars, and flat-screen TVs. The hotel also offers a small fitness center, laundry facilities, and freebies such as hot breakfast and Wi-Fi. The Comfort Inn offers great value for a beachfront hotel; rooms at the Clarion Inn might be a touch more stylish, but the hotel isn't right on the sand.
The Breakers Resort Inn

The Breakers Resort Inn Rating: 2.0 Pearls

Simple and straightforward, the 59-room, family-run Breakers Resort Inn is conveniently located for those who want to be based on the southern part of Virginia Beach's beach strip. Rooms are a bit outdated in terms of decor, but all have ocean-view balconies, as well as microwaves and mini-fridges, and some even have whirlpool tubs. There's a small pool and a basic cafe that serves affordable breakfast and lunch, and there are bicycles for guests to borrow free of charge. That said, the property has a bit of a worn-out motel vibe; for something a bit cheerier, consider the Belvedere Beach Resort, on the northern end of the boardwalk.
