Nita Lake Lodge

Nita Lake Lodge Rating: 4.0 Pearls

A luxurious escape from the madness of the touristy parts of Whistler, the 77 suites at Nita Lake Lodge evoke sophisticated, mountain-town style, with high, vaulted ceilings, fireplaces, and beautiful balconies with gorgeous views. Decor is effortlessly elegant, playing on simple, contrasting colors, like clean, white linens and dark wood trim. An on-site European restaurant features organic and sustainable food. More dining options can be found in Creekside -- just a short walk away -- and a free shuttle carts visitors to Whistler regularly. The lodge's tiny pool leaves much to be desired, but guests can swim in the Nita Lake -- it's cold, but entirely possible in the summer -- and other lakes that are all within a 10-minute walk.
Adara Hotel

Adara Hotel Rating: 3.0 Pearls

This 41-room boutique is one of the smallest (and most intimate) hotels in the area, and has a central location in Whistler Village. The rooms are among Whistler's most stylish (if a little dark and narrow), with mod furniture, and cool touches such as photo prints on pine, and chrome antelope heads. But a few details didn't stand up to close inspection: the dinged-up loft stair handrail, mysteriously spotted PlayStation 3 controller, and grimy showerhead. The prison-like balconies, small covered pool, and other missed-mark attempts at hip can make this a tough sell with so many surrounding options.
