Tiara Park Atlantic Lisboa

Tiara Park Atlantic Lisboa Rating: 4.5 Pearls

The Tiara Park Atlantic is arguably one of the best value hotels in Lisbon. While it might not quite live up to its advertised 5-star status, it certainly is luxurious, and often has better rates than comparable properties. Most of the sophisticated rooms are decorated in a color scheme of silver, gold, and red -- silver wallpaper, rich red woods and accent pillows, and pale gold chairs or couches. They come with all the modern amenities expected of an upscale hotel, including flat-screen TVs, well-stocked minibars, and free Wi-Fi; most boast impressive city and river views from wall-to-wall windows. Rooms also feature Nespresso one-cup coffee machines and free coffee capsules, as well as Hermes toiletries. There’s a nice restaurant serving traditional Portuguese cuisine with a modern twist, and a bar with Hindu decor and comfy seating. Its location, across from Eduardo VII Park, and near the metro and the tourist bus, makes it a great pick for business and for leisure travelers alike.
Four Seasons Hotel Ritz Lisbon

Four Seasons Hotel Ritz Lisbon Rating: 4.5 Pearls

Few Lisbon hotels can compare to the Four Seasons. In addition to the top-notch service the brand is known for, the hotel goes above and beyond with its amenities; it features a stylish indoor pool, an impressive fitness center with an outdoor running track, a luxurious spa, and great family-friendly perks. Large rooms have classic decor (think: 18th century replica furnishings and rich fabrics), as well as furnished terraces, flat-screen TVs, stocked minibars, and marble bathrooms. Some may find the style staid rather than elegant, however. Also, there’s a fee for Wi-Fi, and few major sights can be reached on foot.
Hotel Florida

Hotel Florida Rating: 4.0 Pearls

The Hotel Florida is a historic boutique with a cool retro vibe throughout. Rooms feature fun, quirky decor (such as framed movie posters and green, geometric prints); plush beds with crisp white linens; electric kettles; flat-screen TVs; and mini-fridges. Family rooms are great for families and groups, as they offer a little more space and a third bed. Bathrooms still have generic Best Western style (the hotel used to be owned by the international chain until it was bought by Sterling Design), but feature Saboaria Portugueza toiletries, and are generally very clean. Property highlights include a pleasant winter garden with comfy couches, a full-service business center with an area for kids to play while parents use the computers, and a small bar. The restaurant attached to the hotel is a popular spot serving up international and Portuguese cuisine.
Turim Av Liberdade Hotel

Turim Av Liberdade Hotel Rating: 4.0 Pearls

The 100-room Turim Av Liberdade is a four-pearl hotel in a central location, just off of the lively Avenida da Liberdade (as the name suggests), which is lined by restaurants and shops. The hotel has few on-site amenities (no fitness center or spa), but several freebies are available, such as free Wi-Fi and a free basic breakfast. The rooms are the highlight, with sleek, masculine design (picture shades of brown and grey, in keeping with the decor of the rest of the hotel), as well as sexy peek-a-boo bathrooms with glass walls and funky fixtures. (A shade provides additional privacy.) It's worth comparing rates with the many nearby hotels, but for those who don't mind sacrificing amenities, this is a solid, modern hotel pick.
NH Liberdade

NH Liberdade Rating: 4.0 Pearls

The 83-room NH Liberdade is a solid option with a great location right on bustling Avenida da Liberdade. Spacious rooms are a decent value, and feature attractive, modern decor with nice touches such as patterned throws, striped curtains, sleek furniture, large flat-screen TVs, and wet bars. The restaurant and bars are simple but nice, and most room rates include a cold breakfast buffet (with hot items on request). There's a seasonal pool, but oddly, no fitness center. All in all, it's a stylish four-pearl choice.
Hotel Lisboa

Hotel Lisboa Rating: 4.0 Pearls

The 60-room Hotel Lisboa is a mid-range boutique in a great location -- just off of Avenida da Liberdade and within walking distance of numerous sights. Though the lobby is empty and unimpressive, rooms are nice; they may not be particularly large or glamorous, but they feature sleek, Ikea-esque furniture, red pops of color, small modern bathrooms, and tiny mounted flat-screen TVs. There are few amenities -- and even fewer freebies -- at this hotel; there is no spa, fitness center, or pool, and Wi-Fi in the rooms comes at an additional fee. But there is a cozy bar and restaurant, and overall the hotel is a good value for the location.
Hotel Lisboa Plaza

Hotel Lisboa Plaza Rating: 4.0 Pearls

The 94-room Hotel Lisboa's is an elegant hotel in a central location, just off of Avenida da Liberdade and within walking distance of numerous sights. Unlike some of the smaller Heritage hotels, Hotel Lisboa features a full restaurant and a fitness center (though it's tiny), as well as great common areas. The luxurious lounge, dubbed the "Chill Out Room," features plush furniture, paneled ceilings, and fresh flowers, while the rooftop terrace is lit up at night and has a (non-alcoholic) honesty bar. The rooms are simple but charming; half have antique-style mahogany furniture, and the other half are more modern, but all are meant to evoke the feel of a Portuguese home. Marble bathrooms have shower/tub combos and bidets. All in all, this is a solid option, but it's also worth considering the hotel's nearby sister property, Heritage Av Liberdad.
Tivoli Jardim

Tivoli Jardim Rating: 4.0 Pearls

The Tivoli Jardim is a high-style hotel in a great location right on bustling Avenida da Liberdade (Lisbon's main street, lined by shops, restaurants, and sights). There are two attractive restaurants with sleek, whimsical decor reminiscent of Philippe Starck's style (picture crystal chandeliers and gold and silver furniture), but aside from that, the hotel has very few on-site amenities. However, guests do have access to the facilities at the sister hotel next door. Although rooms are small, they are attractive and hip, with coral throws and funky artwork, as well as up-to-date technology: iPod docks, flat-screen TVs, and Wi-Fi (for a fee).
Tivoli Lisboa

Tivoli Lisboa Rating: 4.0 Pearls

The 306-room is an attractive, upscale hotel in a great location just off of Avenida da Liberdade's bustling sidewalks. The hotel lacks a spa, but has all of the other amenities of a luxury property -- a pool, a fitness center, and two gourmet restaurants. The lobby makes a welcoming and luxurious first impression: It's surrounded by marble columns on all sides and features colorful velvet furniture and various sculptures. Rooms are stylish and contemporary, with plush beds, velvet accent chairs, and floor-to-ceiling photos of the city -- as well as flat-screen TVs, iPod docks, and coffeemakers. Another great highlight are the hotel's views -- guests can enjoy sweeping views of the city, especially from the terrace bar and restaurant. It will cost you a pretty penny, but the Tivoli Lisboa is a great option for both location and style in Lisbon.
Hotel Britania Lisbon

Hotel Britania Lisbon Rating: 4.0 Pearls

Hotel Britania has a loyal set of customers who return year after year. Its location on a tree-lined street just off of bustling Avenida de Liberdade is convenient, but removed from the loud noise of the city. It's a boutique, with only 32 rooms, and it lacks the amenities of a larger property -- there is no fitness center, spa, or full restaurant. However, the hotel does offer a breakfast buffet as well as 24-hour room service, and guests can grab a drink at the wood-paneled bar. Built in the 1940s, the hotel maintains the Art Deco look: The lobby is outfitted with marble columns and impressive chandeliers, and the spacious rooms have dark woods, silver accents, funky light fixtures, and marble bathrooms.
