Wythe Hotel

Wythe Hotel Rating: 4.0 Pearls

With a hopping rooftop bar boasting jaw-dropping views of Manhattan, a wonderful restaurant, and cutting-edge industrial design, the Wythe is a destination unto itself. It’s located near the subway as well as dozens of restaurants, bars, and shops in the heart of trendy Williamsburg. Rooms are spacious and have high pine ceilings, reclaimed wood furnishings, and great amenities, including flat-screen TVs; local, hand-made toiletries; free Wi-Fi, and radiant floor heating. But noise can be a problem, and the lobby and the elevators can get crowded with non-guests on weekends.
Hotel Le Bleu

Hotel Le Bleu Rating: 3.5 Pearls

This 48-room boutique hotel in the middle of the Brooklyn's Park Slope neighborhood makes up for its slim offering of amenities with delightfully modern rooms, balconies, and free breakfasts. Rooms have contemporary decor in shades of white, blue, and brown, modern technology, and Egyptian cotton linens; glass-walled bathrooms are sleek but small, and lack privacy (they're not separated from the rest of the room). The affordable rates may be the biggest draw -- rooms at this outer borough gem are around half the price as similarly stylish options in Manhattan.
Condor Hotel

Condor Hotel Rating: 3.5 Pearls

The Condor is a solid mid-range hotel offering more affordable rates than other comparable Brooklyn properties. Rooms are fairly spacious and contemporary -- with flat-screen TVs, balconies and plush beds -- and all feature a kitchenette with a microwave, a mini-fridge and a sink. There’s not much in the way of amenities, but freebies such as continental breakfast and Wi-Fi, and discounted rates for Zipcar rental cars parked next door, add value. Just note that the subway is quite a hike from the hotel through an unattractive area, and that the neighborhood is not within walking distance of the Brooklyn action.
Sheraton Brooklyn New York Hotel

Sheraton Brooklyn New York Hotel Rating: 3.5 Pearls

This outer borough hotel located in the emerging Downtown Brooklyn neighborhood offers all the creature comforts one would expect from a Sheraton: two restaurants, tons of business and meeting facilities, spacious rooms, a rooftop pool, and a fitness center. A 30-minute subway commute to Midtown Manhattan, however, places New York's most popular tourist sites just outside of easy reach.
New York Marriott at the Brooklyn Bridge

New York Marriott at the Brooklyn Bridge Rating: 3.5 Pearls

The Marriott is an upper-mid-range hotel catering mostly to business travelers. It features 665 large, bright rooms with comfy beds and high-tech amenities; a wonderful heated indoor pool; a well-equipped fitness center; and a solid restaurant serving American fare. It is conveniently located within a block of nine subway lines in busy Downtown Brooklyn, but rates are steep for a hotel located outside Manhattan and there are several pesky extras, including Wi-Fi and parking.
NU Hotel Brooklyn

NU Hotel Brooklyn Rating: 3.0 Pearls

For the cost of a simple, 30-minute subway ride into Manhattan (one subway card swipe), you can considerably upgrade the quality of your New York hotel by staying at this 93-room gem in Brooklyn. New electronics, environmentally sustainable cork floors, organic sheets, free breakfasts, an on-site bar, a 24-hour gym -- all this, and more, for less.
The Box House Hotel

The Box House Hotel Rating: 3.0 Pearls

For a real dose of Brooklyn, it doesn’t get more authentic than The Box House Hotel. This former door factory now houses 57 apartment-style rooms designed by local Brooklynite, Kip Jacobs, who happens to be friends with the owners. The spacious rooms/lofts (some sleep six) attract families, couples and those conducting business -- think film crews. Modern kitchens and free extras include bottled water and coffee, rides within a mile-and-a-half radius, and use of the cool fitness center. This is a hidden gem for those seeking breathing room and easy access to Manhattan.
