Hotel Veritas

Hotel Veritas Rating: 4.0 Pearls

This cozy, 31-room boutique hotel has a stately Cambridge location a few blocks from Harvard Square, with easy access to the subway and several area colleges. Cozy rooms, though small, have refined decor and great amenities such as free Wi-Fi, decadent Egyptian cotten linens, and marble showers. Though on-site features are few (not unexpected for a small property), the hotel offers access to the neighboring fitness center and yoga studio, and in the evening the lobby becomes a lounge serving craft drinks.
Hotel Marlowe

Hotel Marlowe Rating: 4.0 Pearls

With large, playfully furnished rooms, the 236-room Hotel Marlowe is one of Cambridge's most family-friendly hotels. Its neighbor, the Royal Sonesta Hotel, is cheaper and has a pool, but the Marlowe offers a boutique-like feel at a reasonable price, with personality to spare.
Hyatt Regency Cambridge

Hyatt Regency Cambridge Rating: 3.5 Pearls

One of the cheapest hotels in Cambridge, the Hyatt Regency could get away with being a bare-bones business hotel. In fact, it's better than that: The rooms were renovated in 2010, there are quality amenities (including an indoor pool and a well-equipped gym), and it has a charming location overlooking the Charles River. It's a great value for those who don't need to be in the thick of things.
Le Méridien Cambridge-MIT

Le Méridien Cambridge-MIT Rating: 3.5 Pearls

Contemporary rooms and a great location near Central Square -- right on the edge of the MIT campus -- make this 210-room boutique a solid upper-middle-range option in Cambridge. There's no pool, and the rooms are relatively small, but Le Meridien still stands out as a reasonably priced but upscale alternative to the fusty New England aesthetic that dominates area hotels.
Royal Sonesta Hotel

Royal Sonesta Hotel Rating: 3.5 Pearls

Though it lacks any Boston flavor -- despite its location on the banks of the Charles River -- the 400-room Royal Sonesta is one of the best deals going in Cambridge. A renowned Italian restaurant, skyline and river views, and comfortable rooms easily make up for the odd design that dresses up an outdated shell with avant-garde art installations.
Boston Marriott Cambridge

Boston Marriott Cambridge Rating: 3.5 Pearls

For a reasonable price, this 26-story behemoth packs in a lot of quality and convenience: large rooms, a pool and fitness center, and a bustling Cambridge location amid MIT buildings and close to public transportation. It's one of the best chain-hotel deals in Boston.
Charles Hotel-Harvard Square

Charles Hotel-Harvard Square Rating: 3.5 Pearls

Charming rooms, two great restaurants and a location two blocks from Harvard Square make the 294-room Charles Hotel a natural choice for those visiting Harvard. But if the college and its environs aren't the epicenter of your trip -- and if luxuries like a TV in the bathroom aren't a priority -- there are other Cambridge hotels worth considering.
Best Western Hotel Tria

Best Western Hotel Tria Rating: 3.0 Pearls

This 121-room hotel in northwestern Cambridge, which completed a $10 million renovation in 2009, has clean, modern rooms and lots of great freebies: free Wi-Fi, free breakfast, and a free shuttle to Harvard Square. But for the price, leisure travelers can find a hotel closer to the tourist sites.
Residence Inn Boston Cambridge

Residence Inn Boston Cambridge Rating: 3.0 Pearls

The Residence Inn's 221 rooms are among the largest in Boston. The kitchenettes and big flat-screen TVs, together with the hotel's impressive array of on-site amenities, make it a great choice for families or those in town for an extended stay.
Kendall Hotel

Kendall Hotel Rating: 3.0 Pearls

Housed inside a once-abandoned, now renovated firehouse, the three-and-a-half pearl Kendall Hotel is known for its vintage Americana theme and reproduction antique decorations. Its 77 guest rooms are small but cozy, with a homey feel. Located on the MIT campus, the Kendall is close to a Red Line MBTA stop for a convenient commute throughout Boston and Cambridge. Rooms come with double, king- or queen-size beds, 40-inch Vizio flat-screen TVs, and basic cable. True to its boutique hotel style, the Kendall provides a stylish lodging experience for its guests and frequent business visitors.
