Grand Hotel Stockholm

Grand Hotel Stockholm Rating: 5.0 Pearls

The historic Grand Hotel is one of Stockholm's grand dames, complete with gilded accents and a high-profile clientele. Built in 1874, the hotel boasts spectacular harbor views, and a great location near multiple museums and tourist attractions. Stately rooms have flat-screen TVs with premium channels, and some come with extras like separate deep soaking tubs and balconies. But be sure to upgrade to at least a Classic or Superior Room (215 or 270 square feet, respectively): Single Rooms are teensy tiny by American standards, measuring around 160 square feet.
Hotel Diplomat

Hotel Diplomat Rating: 4.5 Pearls

The 130-room boutique Hotel Diplomat is situated in a beautiful Art Nouveau building by the waterfront in an upscale neighborhood of central Stockholm. Stately and refined, the luxury hotel blends chic and light-filled interiors with modern details and touches of Scandinavian design. Rooms, some of which have lovely harbor views, are classically elegant with luxurious beds and linens, work desks, and flat screen TVs, but bathrooms are small. The ground floor restaurant, T/Bar, is popular with guests and locals. Guests can book an "exclusive" hour at The Retreat, a spa area with a whirlpool and sauna, and have it all to themselves.
Lydmar Hotel

Lydmar Hotel Rating: 4.5 Pearls

The 50-room Lydmar Hotel is a hip, design-centric choice located in central Stockholm. Paintings and photographs line the hallways, each floor has its own living room area, and the two-floor lobby boasts a popular restaurant and beautiful views of the harbor. The sleek, earth-toned rooms are among Stockholm's best, with individual designs (no two rooms are the same), and thoughtful attention to detail -- big windows, unique light fixtures, cool wall art, and free Wi-Fi. The hotel does not have a spa or fitness center, however, so guests looking for these amenities may consider the less cool but equally luxe Grand Hotel Stockholm next door.
Hotel J

Hotel J Rating: 4.0 Pearls

This nautical-themed, boutique hotel has a secluded, out-in-the-country feel, although it's only a 10-minute drive from central Stockholm. Though the suburban area of Nacka, one of the city's business hubs, can be relatively dead at night, the hotel has an excellent waterfront restaurant and is near numerous corporate offices. Rooms have tiny tube TVs, but include perks like balconies and free Wi-Fi.
Story Hotel

Story Hotel Rating: 4.0 Pearls

The 83-room boutique Story Hotel is a trendy hipster hangout in a central Stockholm neighborhood saturated with designer shops and boutiques. The industrial chic interiors and artsy vibes attract a cool clientele with an eye for design. Rooms come in varied sizes, but all have ultra comfortable beds, mini-fridges stocked with free refreshments, rainfall showers, and FACE Stockholm toiletries, though some lack storage space. The Story Bar & Lounge is a hip space popular with local residents as well as hotel guests, serving a small selection of snacks and a wide menu of cocktails, and offering DJ sets several evenings a week.
Elite Eden Park Hotel

Elite Eden Park Hotel Rating: 4.0 Pearls

An upscale, city-center hotel located right next to Stockholm's lush Humelgarden Park and Stureplan square, Elite Eden Park Hotel is a stylish and serene property in Stockholm’s vibrant center. Built in 2011, the hotel has 124 bright and modern rooms spread over six floors, two restaurants, and a sauna. Miss Voon -- the chic, Asian-inspired main restaurant -- attracts discerning locals and well-heeled guests alike, while the stately, English-style Bishops Arms pub is a popular watering hole. The central location is especially popular with business travelers who appreciate a bit more character than the average chain options, but all guests enjoy perks like free chocolates and cognac each evening, Penhaligon toiletries, and free Wi-Fi.
Sheraton Stockholm Hotel

Sheraton Stockholm Hotel Rating: 4.0 Pearls

An upscale business hotel on the edge of Stockholm's historic Gamla Stan neighborhood, the Sheraton Stockholm has 465 large, modern rooms, many of which have water views. A stalwart on the hotel scene since 1971, the hotel is minutes away from the central train station and right next to the City Hall. Its modern gym, happy hour offers, and upscale bistro make it a good choice for travelers who like a lot of amenities, and the Sheraton chain is also known for its comfortable beds and top-tier service. The Hilton Slussen, a five-minute drive away, has similar rates and views over the waterfront.
Scandic Grand Central

Scandic Grand Central Rating: 4.0 Pearls

A stylish design hotel in a 19th-century schoolhouse and former theater, the 391-room Scandic Grand Central is located in central Stockholm, at the major Kungsgatan-Vasagatan intersection in the Norrmalm neighborhood, putting design-conscious guests in the heart of the action. The upscale hotel offers an extensive, free daily breakfast, with organic and gluten-free options, and hosts live music events in the lobby on certain nights. It's also home to several popular bars and restaurants, and has a well-equipped gym with a sauna. Note that some of the rooms in the basement do not have windows, but this is reflected in the lower rates. It may be worth comparing to the Clarion Hotel around the corner, which has similar rates and modern rooms, but also the perk of an outdoor pool.
