Shangri-La Hotel Sydney

Shangri-La Hotel Sydney Rating: 5.0 Pearls

With sweeping views of both Darling Harbor and Sydney Cove, the Shangri-La Hotel Sydney is one of the most desirable hotels in the city. It's located in The Rocks, a charming, historic area just north of the Central Business District. Asian-inspired interiors are luxurious, and the large and bright rooms have big marble bathrooms complete with separate showers and soaking tubs. They are also tech-savvy, making them popular with business travelers, featuring built-in coverters in outlets for worry-free charging. The hotel has two bars and two restaurants, one on the 36th floor that is a destination restaurant in Sydney. Amenities are extensive, and include a peaceful indoor pool, modern fitness center, and serene spa. With 563 rooms, the hotel may not be intimate, but the polished interiors and great views make it worth the price tag.
Bed and Breakfast Sydney Harbour

Bed and Breakfast Sydney Harbour Rating: 3.5 Pearls

Located in a restored mansion in The Rocks, the Sydney Harbour Bed & Breakfast offers a cozy place to stay in one of the city's most celebrated historic areas. The nine rooms here vary in size, with the largest big enough for a small family, and all have air-conditioning and crisp, modern decor. Amenities are limited to free Wi-Fi, a pretty courtyard, and an included hot and cold breakfast. For something with a bit more space and pizazz, Simpsons of Potts Point Hotel has larger, more elegant rooms and common areas, though its location isn't quite as tourist-friendly.
Sydney Harbour YHA

Sydney Harbour YHA Rating: 2.0 Pearls

Popular with backpackers, the Sydney Harbour YHA is a budget-friendly hostel with both dorms and private rooms. Each clean room or dorm has its own bathroom with a modern walk-in shower, and guests get access to extensive facilities including an enormous kitchen, coin-operated laundry room, theater with selection of DVDs, and rooftop terrace with lounge chairs and regular, inexpensive barbecues. It's in a central -- but expensive -- area, so guests on strict budgets may prefer to cook their meals on-site. Wi-Fi, while not free, is cheap. For a hostel, this property is clean, inviting, and has a touch of style that other hostels seriously lack.
