Boscolo Palace Roma

Boscolo Palace Roma Rating: 4.0 Pearls

The sleek Boscolo Palace is located on the fashionable Via Veneto, across the street from the U.S. Embassy. This 87-room, Marriott Autograph Collection property completed a renovation in 2010, which added modern touches to a period building. Hallways have a stylish pink and gray motif that continues inside the rooms with the striped wallpaper and interesting designer furnishings. Amenities include crisp linens, flat-screen TVs, minibars, and spacious bathrooms with big walk-in showers. This design-focused hotel offers nice perks such as period travertine balconies off some rooms, and a cozy lounge off the lobby with a big flat-screen TV. Beyond the beautiful rooms, there is a spa on-site, as well as the upscale ABC Restaurant and Lounge.

Rome Marriott Grand Hotel Flora

Rome Marriott Grand Hotel Flora Rating: 4.0 Pearls

The Marriott Grand Hotel Flora is located near the Villa Borghese gardens. Traditional, airy rooms are decorated in soft tones and feature flat-screen TVs, stocked minibars, and nice bathrooms with intricate tile work. The highlight of the property is the Alianto Roof Terrace with panoramic views of the park and city, where breakfast is served. The cozy lobby has plenty of lounge space and an appealing fireplace. A lobby bar and restaurant are nice amenities, but Wi-Fi is expensive and the business center is on the small side. The location is within walking distance of the Trevi Fountain and Spanish steps, but more ancient sights such as the Pantheon and Colosseum will be a bit of a trek.

Stylish Room

Stylish Room Rating: 3.5 Pearls

This nine-room boutique is awkwardly located on the second floor of a historic building. But once you get past having to climb the stairs to the front desk, the hotel offers great value: Rooms are large with up-to-date bathrooms and free Wi-Fi, there is free breakfast, and even pets stay for no extra fee. The room decor is contemporary, with wood floors, colorful artwork, bright accent walls, and bedding in shades of white, brown, and gray. Plus, the location is great for sightseeing; the Villa Borghese, the Trevi Fountain, and the Spanish steps are all within walking distance. If you're looking for lots of amenities, however, you may want to consider staying elsewhere (the hotel has no fitness center and no full restaurant -- just a breakfast room).

Ambasciatori Palace Hotel

Ambasciatori Palace Hotel Rating: 3.0 Pearls

This 152-room hotel -- part of the Royal Group, with several properties around Italy -- is located in an elegant building near the Trevi Fountain. Built in the early 1900s as a hotel for diplomats visiting nearby embassies, this property is known for providing more generous space than the competition -- but it's certainly not the luxury property it advertises itself as. While the marble, stuccowork, and columns are all restored and elegant, rooms are basic and show some light wear and tear. Rooms facing Via Veneto may experience some street noise, but rear-facing rooms have less desirable views. Breakfast is free and the on-site restaurant has a nice terrace overlooking Via Veneto. The American Bar, featuring live piano in the evenings, is a lovely place for pre-dinner cocktails.
