Hyatt Zilara Cancun

Hyatt Zilara Cancun Rating: 4.5 Pearls

The appearance of the 288-room adults-only Royal in Cancun goes against the often bad reputation all-inclusives have gained. Suites appear updated and buck traditional room layouts with a centrally located bed and spacious balcony (some are even swim-out). The bathrooms boast massive walk-in showers and Jacuzzi tubs with killer views. The quality of the food is surprisingly good and varied, including the convenient 24-hour VIP lounge. But like many all-inclusive properties, basic amenities can get crowded fast: Expect to fight for chairs by the pool or for dinner reservations at a decent hour. The vibe is also slightly older, so young couples or spring breakers may want to consider staying elsewhere. And families, of course, steer clear (no guests under the age of 16 are allowed).

Le Blanc Spa Resort

Le Blanc Spa Resort Rating: 4.5 Pearls

There is nothing ordinary about the 260-room Le Blanc Spa Resort: Everything from the wine lists to your workout has been tailored to be top notch. It feels more South Beach chic than Cancun party, with a hip, gorgeous aesthetic throughout the entire pristine white property. The rooms are thoroughly modern and bright with minimalist decor and stunning ocean views (some with large Jacuzzi baths). But most of your time should be spent experiencing the top-of-the line spa, the chic restaurants (especially the stunningly designed Lumiere), and heavenly white-sand beach.

Sandos Cancun Luxury Experience Resort

Sandos Cancun Luxury Experience Resort Rating: 4.0 Pearls

A time-share and all-inclusive property, the Sandos Cancun Luxury Experience is located in Cancun's Hotel Zone. While ownership pitches from the concierge can be pesky, this property does have a variety of quality restaurants, considerable spa offerings, and three elegant infinity pools. The hotel overlooks a gorgeous strip of white-sand beach and some rooms have balconies with striking water views. There is 24-hour room service, a chic lobby bar, and well-equipped fitness center, but some guests complain about a lack of nightlife and limited number of pool and beach umbrellas.

Paradisus Cancun All Inclusive

Paradisus Cancun All Inclusive Rating: 4.0 Pearls

The Paradisus is an all-inclusive Cancun megaresort with 678 clean and updated rooms. Decor is bright and contemporary, though the gray marble floors can get slippery when wet. Quality of the balconies is inconsistent -- some are spacious with great ocean views, while others have obstructed views or little privacy. The pool area is well-designed and massive enough to handle big crowds. The remarkably clean beach is a big plus, as are the impressive spa and large fitness center. While this resort has great amenities such as a 9-hole golf course and plenty of water sports, there is a fee for Wi-Fi and the sprawling property can get crowded.

Omni Cancun Hotel & Villas

Omni Cancun Hotel & Villas Rating: 4.0 Pearls

This 343-room all-inclusive hotel is situated in a pyramid-style building along the Nichupte Lagoon's expansive beach -- just a 15-minute drive from Cancun Airport. Although the hotel has undergone renovations, certain aspects are not up to par for the level of quality guests might expect. Rooms offer nothing special as far as decor (just your basic Mexican design with tile flooring), but redeeming amenities include balconies, purified tap water, minibars, coffeemakers, flat-screen TVs, and iPod docks. As for dining, the all-inclusive property has too few restaurants and bars for the size -- though DaVinci's is a hit. Overall, it's a comfortable family-friendly option, and grounds include tropical gardens surrounding three pools, and the mega-Jacuzzi with seating for up to 35 guests. In addition, there are tennis/basketball courts, meeting rooms, a fitness center, and spa, but watch out for the pushy time-share presenters in the lobby.

Riu Palace Las Americas

Riu Palace Las Americas Rating: 4.0 Pearls

The all-inclusive Riu Palace Las Americas sits on the beach 15 minutes from downtown Cancun. Colorful resort gardens are accessorized by tall fountains and palm trees, and the gigantic lobby is full of glimmering chandeliers. The decor here is regal red and gold, in the common areas and the 372 spacious suites. Rooms have amenities such as turndown service, minibars, lounges area with sofa, and flat-screen TVs. One great perk here is the fact that most suites have balconies with incredible ocean views. The resort has many on-site activities, including volleyball, snorkeling, and nightly live shows, but there is a fee for Wi-Fi and some guests might find the decor dated.

Gran Caribe Real Cancun

Gran Caribe Real Cancun Rating: 4.0 Pearls

The massive Gran Caribe is a four-pearl all-inclusive resort in Cancun's Hotel Zone with 487 suites. This beachfront option features a great location with bright white sands and clear waters just steps from the room. All rooms here are suites with living areas, balconies or terraces, and updated marble bathrooms. While there are eight on-site restaurants and eight bars, there are common complaints of mediocre food. This family-friendly choice -- with a kids' club, teen club, waterpark, and squash courts -- is good value, but Wi-Fi is not included in some room rates.

Dreams Cancun Resort & Spa - All Inclusive

Dreams Cancun Resort & Spa - All Inclusive Rating: 4.0 Pearls

The all-inclusive, family-friendly Dreams Cancun is in a convenient location near shops and restaurants, but still maintains a relatively tranquil atmosphere. The property occupies a unique spot in the Hotel Zone, with sprawling grounds that jut out into the ocean. Highlights include a cheery kids' club, serene spa, massive pool, and saltwater lagoon where guests can swim with dolphins. Rooms are large, but could use an update: Some have old tube TVs, and the beach-inspired decor in some rooms verges on kitschy. The all-inclusive rates include just about everything, but some guests feel nickel-and-dimed when they have to pay for in-room Wi-Fi.

Sun Palace All-Inclusive

Sun Palace All-Inclusive Rating: 4.0 Pearls

This couples-only, all-inclusive resort is a great pick for a romantic getaway, thanks to its semi-secluded location, luxurious spa, and decadent details such as two-person Jacuzzi tubs in every room. It features four pools (one of them jetted), a large, modern fitness center, and a wide array of dining options. Rooms are spacious and offer solid amenities, as well as minimalist, neutral-toned decor. The hotel has a quieter, more intimate setting than the resorts on the party-hearty, northern side of the Hotel Zone. But this somewhat remote location means you'll need a taxi to reach all the action.

Beach Palace

Beach Palace Rating: 4.0 Pearls

There’s a lot to like about this 287-room hotel, if you're searching for an all-inclusive experience in the heart of the party-Mecca of the Hotel Zone: three pools with stunning ocean views, lots of dining options, great rooms with high-tech amenities (like iPod docks and flat-screen TVs), a full spa (not included in the price), a tiny but modern fitness center, and a location right on a gorgeous white-sand beach. However, the hotel lacks the character of smaller, cozier hotels in the downtown area of Cancun. And those not looking for a 24/7 party should consider hotels in other areas.
