Bottom Line

The Capella is an upscale property in historic colonial-style buildings on Sentosa Island. Beautiful rooms have contemporary decor with Asian-inspired touches, and high-end amenities such as rainforest showerheads, iPod docks, and big flat-screen TVs. Rooms have floor-to-ceiling windows, most with great South China Sea views. Many rooms have balconies and all have spacious bathrooms. A soft color palette, hardwood floors, and warm lighting all make rooms even more appealing. This hotel also has a butler assigned to each guest on arrival, a fleet of Mercedes and Rolls-Royce Phantoms, and an excellent spa. The location, away from mainland Singapore, is quiet and relaxed. With fine dining, a comfortable library, a bright fitness room, and lovely outdoor pools, this hotel is a premier luxury pick.

Capella Singapore

Location

In a quiet estate in central Sentosa Island, amid golf courses and tropical forests

The Capella Hotel is located in central Sentosa, the quietest and most secluded part of the island. There are two great golf courses next door to the hotel. North of Capella is booming Resort World, a huge entertainment complex with a wide range of restaurants, hotels, shops, casinos, clubs, and attractions including Universal Studios and a massive aquarium.

Sentosa Island is located a 25-minute drive from the downtown area and connected to mainland Singapore by the Sentosa Gateway. It is divided into two very distinct parts -- the tranquil, more secluded eastern half (home to golf courses, quiet resorts, and forests) and the younger, massive tourism-oriented western half, home to Resort World. The island is a good spot for golfers, nature lovers, and partiers but those in Singapore to visit the sights are better off staying closer to downtown.

Singapore is known to have heavy traffic at all times, so the following driving times are just for guidance.

  • 30-minute drive to Changi International Airport
  • 20-minute drive to Chinatown
  • 20- to 35-minute drive to Downtown Singapore’s attractions
  • 20- to 25-minute drive to the Marina Bay area and the Esplanade Theater and Library
  • 25- to 30-minute drive to the Singapore International Convention & Exhibition Center
  • 25- to 30-minute drive to Fort Canning Park
  • 35-minute drive to the heart of the action along Orchard Road
