Oyster Review Summary

Photos and Review by Oyster.com Investigators

Pros

  • Stately historic building once home to the General Post Office
  • Within walking distance to attractions, shopping and dining
  • Large rooms with flat-screen TVs and large windows
  • 4 elegant restaurants and a cocktail bar serving light fare
  • Spa Artisan offers Asian-inspired treatments
  • Infinity-edge pool overlooking the Marina bay
  • Stunning Marina views from some rooms and the restaurants
  • An Asian art gallery and a permanent heritage exhibition on-site
  • Well-equipped fitness center
  • Free Wi-Fi and a business center with secretarial services

Cons

  • Rooms lack wow factor
  • Heritage and Courtyard Rooms are interior-facing units and can be a little dark
  • Hard mattresses
  • Starting to show its age

Bottom Line

Once home to the General Post Office, the Fullerton is one of Singapore’s grand dames. It has the extensive amenities you'd expect at a 5-pearl hotel, including four stately dining venues, a bar, a well-equipped fitness center (though machines lack individual TVs), a spa, and a pretty infinity pool with views of the Marina Bay and the skyline. There's even an art gallery and a room with a permanent exhibit of stamps, maps and old photographs. But it’s starting to show its age, and rooms, though luxurious, lack wow factor; they have neutral color palettes and hard mattresses. Its fairly central location and understated elegance make it a fine luxury pick, but it’s worth checking prices at its more impressive sister property, the Fullerton Bay Hotel.

Oyster Hotel Review

 Location

Just across the river from the Historic District, within walking distance of great dining and shopping

The Fullerton Hotel is located right across the river from the Esplanade Park and the Asian Civilisation Museum. It’s possible to explore some of the attractions on foot, but it might feel more convenient to take public transportation, as most sights are over a 15-minute walk from the hotel. There’s a wide array of restaurants and shopping malls in the neighborhood, and Chinatown is nearby too. For longer distances, the Raffles Place MTR station is a five-minute walk from the hotel, and several bus lines run along Fullerton Road, just outside the hotel.

  • 23-minute drive to Changi International Airport
  • 4-minute walk to 2 subway lines at Raffles Place MTR station
  • 8-minute walk to Esplanade Park
  • 12-minute walk to Chinatown
  • 12-minute walk to the Marina Bay area and the Esplanade Theater and Library
  • 12-minute walk to the Parliament House
  • 13-minute walk to St. Andrew’s Cathedral
  • 14-minute subway ride to the heart of the action along Orchard Road
  • 16-minute walk or 14-minute subway ride to the Singapore International Convention & Exhibition Center
  • 16-minute walk to the City Hall and the Padang, or 6 minutes via public transportation
  • 18-minute walk to famous Raffles Hotel, or 12 minutes via public transportation
  • 21-minute walk or 7-minute drive to stunning Marina Bay Sands Hotel
  • 14-minute subway ride to the National Museum of Singapore
