Oyster Hotel Review
Chain hotel with charming garden
The Best Western Hotel La Solara has a big lobby with a wall of windows and clusters of colorful blue and white couches. Guests can relax and enjoy a drink here or in the lobby bar. Red hallway carpeting throughout feels a bit dated, but the garden area -- with its grassy lawn, olive trees, and a foosball table -- is a lovely, peaceful place to kick back. There is a big outdoor pool with an elevated sundeck and blue lounge chairs looking out at the Bay of Naples.
On a winding road, just over two miles outside of Sorrento
The Best Western Hotel La Solara is on a winding road bordering Massa Lubrense. The hotel is a little over two miles (or a 15-minute drive) from the center of Sorrento, and traffic in the area can get heavy in the summer. Ferries to Naples and Capri can be taken at the Sorrento Port, which is less than three miles from the hotel, and Naples International Airport is just over an hour’s drive away in no traffic. The hotel offers a free shuttle to Sorrento, though some guests may prefer the convenience of a car.
Spacious rooms with bland décor and basic wood furniture
Rooms at the Best Western Hotel La Solara are what you might expect from the chain: decor is bland with colorful patterned floors and uninspiring wood furniture. Rooms with small balconies are available, and guests recommend opting for the sea-view rooms if paying for an upgrade. Bathrooms have stand-up showers or shower/tub combos. All rooms have minibars, flat-screen TVs with satellite channels, and free Wi-Fi. Coffee/tea kettles are available upon request.
Free shuttle service and breakfast buffet with wide variety of options
The big outdoor pool has a smaller children’s pool and a deck facing the Bay of Naples. The hotel has a bright restaurant serving Campania cuisine, and a free breakfast buffet is provided daily with a wide variety of food including eggs, bacon, pastries, and cold cuts. There is a shuttle providing service into Sorrento as well as to an affiliate spa with a whirlpool and Turkish bath. The lounge bar serves drinks and light snacks, and the fitness center has treadmills and a weight machine. The hotel endorses green thinking with recycling and low-energy lighting.
