Bottom Line

The mid-range Tahoe Lakeshore Lodge and Spa is popular with families and groups who want access to a private beach on Lake Tahoe and condo-style accommodations with full kitchens. Balconies overlooking the lake are a great touch, but some of the furniture could use an update. The two-bedroom loft is ideal for larger groups. While many hotels in this price range offer free entrance to a public beach, this is one of the only properties that offers guests a completely private beach. In the summer, there are free concerts and BBQ facilities. The on-site spa is an unexpected perk, though there isn't a restaurant or bar. If that's a deal breaker for you compare rates at nearby BEST WESTERN Plus Station House Inn, which offers free made-to-order breakfast at its restaurant (but no spa).

Tahoe Lakeshore Lodge and Spa

Scene

Families on the beach

The scene at Tahoe Lakeshore Lodge and Spa is mostly dedicated to families and groups who spend their time at the beach or exploring nearby tourist attractions. The front of the hotel faces a huge parking lot with some strip mall-type stores, restaurants, and other hotels across the street. The other side of the property is all water and beachfront. Both sides of the hotel consist of smaller private houses. Though the atmosphere is private and somewhat secluded, groups of guests can get into partying. The lobby opens onto the swimming pool. Indoors, the cabin themed lobby includes a cozy sitting area, fireplace, and free coffee and cocoa.

Location

On Lake Tahoe near the Heavenly Gondola

Tahoe Lakeshore Lodge and Spa is located directly on the shores of Lake Tahoe but it's a solid 25-minute walk (or five-minute drive) to the popular Heavenly Village area. There are shops and restaurants just across the street from the property. Bijou Golf Course is just a two-minute drive away. On-site parking is plentiful and free.

Rooms

Hotel rooms and condos with lake views

There are 73 different hotel rooms and condo-style apartments at Tahoe Lakeshore Lodge and Spa. Each comes standard with lake views, a private balcony or terrace, and fireplace. Lodge hotel rooms are a good choice for couples as they're smaller, though some have kitchens. The decor is alpine-themed with wood-paneled walls and plaid furniture. Brown appliances and bear lamps look kitschy. Condo-style accommodations sleep more people. The loft-style condos would be a good fit for a large family. The decor is similar to what's found in the hotel rooms, but the condos all have full kitchens. In the bathroom, you'll find single sinks and glass showers or bathtub/shower combinations with fabric curtains. Book the romance condo and get a two-person hot tub. Past guests have complained that some of the mattresses are hard and the furniture could use an update.

Features

Private beach, swimming pool, spa -- and no restaurant

At this price point a full spa and private beach are almost unheard of, but Tahoe Lakeshore Lodge and Spa has both. The spa is tucked away on the second floor and offers a variety of massages and facials, along with a hydrotherapy jet tub. The sandy beach on Lake Tahoe is completely private, a true luxury as most hotels in this area share access to public beaches. There's a pier within walking distance of the beach where guests can rent water equipment. In the summer, the hotel hosts free concerts on the sand. There are BBQ facilities and a fire pit near the outdoor swimming pool and whirlpool. Sun loungers and deck chairs line the perimeter of the pool. Unfortunately, there isn't an on-site restaurant or bar though several are within walking distance. Free coffee and cocoa are served in the lobby.
