Bottom Line

Located off of Interstate 95, this 82-room Holiday Inn Express is a clean, well-run, and relatively inexpensive base near St. Augustine. The budget chain property is a 15-minute drive to the Old City and is right down the street from outlet stores. The hotel is one of the few in the area with an indoor pool and it also serves a free breakfast with local specialties like biscuits and gravy in a bright and modern breakfast room. Clean and pleasant guest rooms feature generic contemporary decor and come equipped with microwaves. Jaybird’s Inn, which has similar rates, has less of a chain feel and is a bit closer to the Old City and beaches.

Oyster Hotel Review

Holiday Inn Express & Suites Saint Augustine North

Scene

Budget chain hotel with modern decor

While it's not the most contemporary or cutting edge hotel we've seen, the interiors here are modern and attractive, with dark hardwood floors and bright geometric carpets in the simple lobby seating area. The stylish and homey breakfast room has a long white marble-topped table lined with high stools as well as a fireplace surrounded by mosaic tile with a flat-screen TV above it. The indoor pool area is a bit no-frills, but offers chairs and tables and is clean and well-kept -- it's a feature many budget hotels in the area lack. Overall, interiors do have a typical chain hotel ambience, though affordable rates and a convenient location off the interstate make this a good base for business travelers and leisure tourists seeking to explore Saint Augustine.
