Bottom Line

Hotel Le Flamboyant was impacted by Hurricane Irma in September 2017. We will update our review as soon as we have more information. A budget hotel located on the southwest side of the island near Marigot, Hotel Le Flamboyant is a good choice for travelers looking for a cheap place to eat and sleep. All rooms are spacious but plain and have full outdoor kitchens situated outside on hot, usually muggy terraces. The property has two attractive and well-maintained pools, a pretty beachfront that faces the lagoon, and an on-site restaurant and bar. However, the hotel is in need of some upgrades and feels dated. Compare rates at nearby beach properties such as Simpson Bay Resort, Mary’s Boon Beach Resort, and The Atrium Beach Resort, all of which have notably nicer rooms.

Oyster Hotel Review

Le Flamboyant Hotel and Resort

Scene

Large family-friendly hotel with mix of hotel rooms and privately owned units

Hotel Le Flamboyant is a large property, spread out over multiple three-story coral-colored buildings. It sees a mix of guests and is popular with families, couples, and groups of friends, most of whom are French speakers. Some units are privately owned, with the owners living on the property or renting out their units to guests. The quality and decor in these units vary, and some may be more updated than the general hotel rooms.

Le Flamboyant lacks a traditional lobby, although there is a large, open-air room with a long desk that might have once served as a lobby but is now deserted. These days, check-in takes place in a small office adjacent to the larger space. Like most properties in the area, the property is gated and has an on-site security booth. Security regularly patrols the property.

Location

On the western side of the island, a short drive from Marigot

Hotel Le Flamboyant is located on the west side of the island, just past the seedy Sandy Ground neighborhood. A French bakery sits at the entrance to the property and there's a small grocery store a two-minute drive away. It's a 10-minute drive into Marigot -- the capital of the French side of the island -- which has shopping and plenty of restaurants. The hotel is a 12-minute drive to the airport and a 10-minute drive to Maho Beach, arguably one of the best beaches on the island. Although the location is convenient, it isn’t exactly in the center of everything and a rental car is recommended.

Rooms

Basic rooms with fully equipped kitchens on large balconies

Studios, One-Bedroom Suites, and two-floor Two-Bedroom Suites with spiral staircases are available. Decor is basic, with tile floors and dark-wood furniture. The rooms are unmemorable and dated, and beds have thin yellow bedspreads, pastel art prints, and heavy floral curtains. Note that some of the larger beds are actually two twin beds pushed together. All units have large balconies with full outdoor kitchens. Each has a two-burner electric stove, a large fridge, a toaster oven, and a coffeemaker. Crockery and dishware are included. Bathrooms feature blue tiles and shower/tub combos, plus a wooden vanity carved with a pineapple.

Some guests report basic maintenance issues such as lack of hot water and broken door latches, and some past visitors have found the sliding glass doors to the balcony difficult to open.

Features

Affordable restaurant, two large and attractive pools, and beach with free water sports

Le Flamboyant has two attractive, well-maintained swimming pools, both surrounded by lounge chairs. The main pool is large and divided into two circular areas, including a shallow side that is good for kids. The second pool, located on the side of the property, is adults-only. This pool has beautiful views of the beach and is a great place to watch the sunset. The pool has a landscaped island with a palm tree, and small umbrella huts. There's also a beach right next to the hotel that's dotted with palm trees and has lounge chairs and a playground with swings and a play structure. There's also an on-site water sports provider offering free non-motorized equipment such as windsurfing boards, kayaks, and snorkels. However, the adjacent lagoon is shallow and filled with rocks and seaweed, making it less than ideal for swimming.

Ti Case Restaurant, the resort’s on-site eatery, serves a variety of French and international items at breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The food is good, portions are large, and the prices are reasonable. Wi-Fi is free at the Main Pool and in Ti Case, and for a fee in rooms (although the connection is reportedly spotty).
