Bottom Line

Located on a popular tourist road, the mid-range Royal Palm Beach Resort is beachfront to Royal Palm Beach and within walking distance of Simpson Bay’s restaurants and shops. It features a spacious pool terrace, a casual open-air restaurant and swim-up bar, and a spacious fitness center. All 140 rooms are contemporary and spacious, expect to see modern amenities like flat-screen TVs, hairdryers, and coffeemakers. The ocean views from all the rooms are a major highlight with stunning sunsets, but housekeeping is weekly. With an activity center and barbecue pits, this is an ideal location for families. Those looking for a little more quiet might try Flamingo Beach Resort, a sister resort, for a similar price.

Editor's note: This hotel was badly damaged during Hurricane Maria and is currently closed for renovations. Check back at the end of 2018 for an updated review.

Royal Palm Beach Resort

Scene

Spacious and laid-back resort with a lot of family-friendly features and a small social scene

The Royal Palm Beach Resort packs in plenty of island-inspired charm. The spacious open-floor plan lobby is the main hub of the hotel and leads out into a lively pool terrace and swim-up bar. The pool is bustling from morning and into the night with water activities and kids playing (especially during high season). The swim-up bar is attached to the casual and rustic, Cabana Beach Bar, which has a lively social scene at night with tourists from the area and hotel guests hanging out. Royal Palm Beach is just beyond the pool, and tends to be busy with locals. Rooms and amenities (fitness and activity centers) are spread out away from the main building, ensuring quiet.

The small cruise town of Philipsburg, and market town of Marigot, are 20-minute and 15-minute drives away from the hotel. The hotel is situated beachfront to the white sands of Royal Palm Beach. The more popular (and famous) Orient Bay Beach is a 35-minute drive from the hotel on the French Side of the island. For adventure seekers and nature lovers, the hiking trails and zip lines of the Loterie Farm are a 22-minute drive away from the hotel.
