Bottom Line
The Trailhead Lodge is a four-pearl hotel consisting of managed rental condos with full kitchens and mountain views. Though not a ski-in, ski-out property, the on-site gondola can take guests straight to the nearby slopes rising around the Steamboat Resort. There's also a free shuttle service to the lifts, as well as a seasonal shuttle to town. An outdoor pool and game room are family-friendly perks, but there's currently no on-site dining. The nearby Highmark Steamboat Springs is walking distance to the ski lifts at Mount Werner, has similar rooms, and adds a gourmet grocery store with a deli.

Managed condo rentals with mountain decor
The five-story Trailhead Lodge -- managed by Wyndham Vacation Rentals -- resembles a contemporary condo building, with timber balconies and rough cut stone covering the ground floor, adding a bit of mountain architectural flair. It has the kind of rustic earth-tone decor expected in a Rocky Mountain ski town hotel, with stone tile flooring and big leather furniture centered around a fireplace in the wide lobby. Most guests are families and couples on ski vacations.
Location
Near skiing, and walking distance to its own gondola
The Trailhead Lodge rises from a wide open mountain plain, near other Wyndam vacation properties, just outside of Steamboat Springs. It's a six-minute walk past a tennis center and a vast parking lot to the Strings Music Festival venue. There are a handful of restaurants clustered around a strip mall within walking distance, but a more diverse selection of restaurants can be found under a 10-minute drive in downtown Steamboat Springs. The Steamboat Ski Resort is just a five-minute drive away, and it’s a four-minute drive to Haymaker Golf Course. Other local attractions are within easy driving distance: it’s a six-minute drive to the Old Town Hot Springs, a 10-minute drive to Fish Creek Falls, and a 25-minute drive to Strawberry Park Natural Hot Springs. Steamboat Springs-Bob Adams Field Airport is a 13-minute drive awat, while Yampa Valley Regional Airport is about 35 minutes away.
Rooms
Contemporary condos with full kitchens
The 86 condos at the Trailhead Lodge are Studios, One-, Two-, and Three-Bedroom Apartments, most with their own private balconies and mountain views. All have hardwood floors and earth-tone decor with rustic accents. The living rooms have stone fireplaces and big comfortable couches, along with flat-screen TVs. Fully stocked kitchens include stainless steel dishwashers, ovens, and electric stovetops, along with breakfast bars and/or dining areas in larger units. Each also has a washer and dryer (with detergent provided during ski season). The stone-tiled bathrooms have either shower/tub combos, or glass walk-in rainfall showers and separate soaking tubs.
Features
Outdoor pool, three hot tubs, terrace with fireplace and grills, and a ski gondola
The on-site ski gondola is one of the hotel's biggest selling points, but the beautifully landscaped pool area is a great spot for relaxing after the slopes. The heated pool has a small sundeck with lounge chairs and there are three hot tubs nestled between bubbling rock waterfalls and evergreens. An outdoor terrace with tables and a pair of gas grills set into the stone flank a central fireplace.
Indoors, there's a lounge and game room with foosball and a pool table, along with a pile of bean bag chairs. The fitness center has a variety of cardio machines and free weights, and a business corner in the lobby has a printer for guests. There's also a free (seasonal) shuttle service to explore the town, or to use as an alternative to the gondola.
