What It's Like
Mountain Village is the sister town to Telluride. A gondola serves as the main transportation between the two towns, as Telluride sits in a canyon a full 800 feet below the ski slopes and Mountain Village. Mountain Village gives guests easier access to the slopes, and is truly a resort-style town catering almost exclusively to tourists. Several different plazas offer shopping, restaurants, bars, and other entertainment.
Numerous outdoor activities are available in the area, including biking, bouldering, golfing, fishing, and ice skating. During the summer the St. Sophia Nature Center gives out free information about biking and hiking trails, and has crafts activities for children.
Where To Stay
The northeastern branch of the town, which offers multiple restaurants, bars, and shops, is the most convenient area of Mountain Village for travelers. Visitors seeking a high-class hotel may want to look in this area, specifically on Country Club Drive (go figure) and Mountain Village Boulevard. Hotels on the southern and western edges of town tend to be more affordable.
