Bottom Line

The Cambridge Suites Hotel is an upscale, all-suite property providing guests with clean, spacious two-room suites in the hub of downtown Toronto. All rooms here are big with separate living rooms and dressing areas, two flat-screen TVs, plus wet bars with sinks, microwaves, mini-fridges, and Keurig coffeemakers. But decor is rather straightforward and lacks the wow-factor expected of an upscale property. The hotel has a nice fine-dining restaurant and bar plus room service and a rooftop fitness center with a whirlpool, sauna, and city views. Travelers seeking out splashier decor might consider the nearby Cosmopolitan Hotel Toronto, which also includes a spa.

Cambridge Suites Toronto

Scene

Upscale, all-suite hotel in heart of Toronto

Cambridge Suites Hotel is a large, upscale all-suite hotel situated in a 22-story glass high-rise. The lobby offers an upscale, business-vibe, pairing brown marbled floors with wood-paneled walls and classy contemporary accents like a gold inset ceiling and a couch with velvety throw pillows. The restaurant is stylish with wood floors, swoop armchairs with nailhead trim, and ring-chandelier lighting. Despite that, there's a vaguely functional, chain-hotel feel about some of the building -- maybe it's the wavy gray hallway carpeting or the neutral in-room color palette. But this is a well-oiled, well-kept property. With large suites and an exceptional location, the hotel attracts a huge range of travelers, from business guests to tourists, including families.

Rooms

All suites with roomy living areas, wet bars, and huge bathrooms

Here, all rooms are spacious suites with subdued yet contemporary decor in neutral tones and French doors that lead from bedrooms to large sitting rooms. The textured wallpaper, abstract wall-art, and striped curtains can feel generic, but overall rooms are tasteful and well-kept. Living rooms have couches, coffee tables, armchairs, and 49-inch flat-screen TVs (there are also TVs in the bedrooms), plus wet bars with sinks, microwaves, Keurig coffeemakers, and mini-fridges. Neutral but roomy bathrooms have separate dressing areas with double vanities. The combination showers and tubs can feel a tad dated, but rooms with walk-in showers feel smart and modern. Bathrooms include hairdryers, magnifying mirrors, and free individual toiletries. Rooms also have individually controlled air-conditioning, irons and ironing boards, safes, and free Wi-Fi. Room service is available. Executive rooms add extras like free breakfast, goose-down duvets, and better views. Single and two-story penthouse suites add lots of style, plus outstanding views.

Features

Nice restaurant and bar, plus rooftop fitness center with whirlpool

Upscale features and services are thoroughly covered at the Cambridge Suites -- aside from one or two notable exceptions. Portico, the hotel's restaurant and bar, has a chic, contemporary feel and serves up lunch and dinner. A daily happy hour offers drink specials and free small bites. The hotel also offers a buffet breakfast with a range of hot and cold options, but it's only free for Executive Suite and Penthouse guests. Room service is available during limited hours as well. There's a decent rooftop fitness center (with treadmills, stationary bikes, ellipticals, free weights, but no weight machines) offering up great city views. Next to the fitness center, there's a small whirlpool and a glass-walled sauna -- but no spa or full pool. The hotel has a 24-hour front desk, a meeting room, and a small business center with computers for guest use. Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel. Same-day laundry service is available most days, and coin-operated laundry is also on-site. Parking is available, but costs an extra daily fee.
