Bottom Line

The Hazelton Hotel is an intimate, 77-room boutique property offering luxury at every turn. Spacious, sophisticated guest rooms start at 575 square feet and feature truly impressive bathrooms with heated granite floors, mirror-embedded TVs, deep soaking tubs, and rainfall showers. They also feature 47-inch HDTVs, iPod docking stations, minibars, and Nespresso coffeemakers. The hotel has a classy lobby bar, trendy on-site restaurant, private dining areas and theater, and an on-site spa with treatment rooms, a steam room, an opulent lap pool, and a 24-hour fitness center. The great location just blocks from Bloor Street, the hip, design-conscious vibe, and the astounding service help explain why this is one of the top hotels in Toronto -- and why it's so expensive. It can be worth comparing rates and amenities with the Four Seasons Hotel Toronto and Windsor Arms Hotel.

The Hazelton Hotel

Scene

Design-conscious luxury hotel with boutique details and expansive rooms

Arguably the best luxury hotel in Toronto, The Hazelton Hotel is a sophisticated boutique property with all of the features and style guests expect from this pearl category. The building was constructed in 2007 and features a rounded, red brick corner and a staggered upper facade made mostly of windows. Interiors were created by the Yabu Pushelberg design group, and are decidedly modern but with sleek and classy 1940s-inspired details. In the lobby, granite floors pair with an oversized carpet, plush velvety couches, caramel-colored armchairs, and chrome and brass accents. The bar and lounge successfully manage a color scheme that includes burnt orange, mustard yellow, and emerald green. Wood floors are paired with a mosaic-tiled accent wall and large black and white photographs adorn the walls. Velvety benches and couches, granite-topped coffee tables, and gray tweed armchairs cupped in gold frames give guests a swanky choice of seating, and the gilded bar is under lit and lined with leathery button-tufted bar stools. For those who can afford it, this hotel rarely misses its mark, attracting a slew of exclusive travelers, especially business guests and couples.

Location

In the chic Yorkville neighborhood, blocks from Bloor Street

The Hazelton Hotel is located in the chic Yorkville neighborhood, known for it's upscale shops, restaurants, and hotels. Bloor Street borders Yorkville (it's just a four-minute walk) and is lined with high-end retailers, such as Burberry, Prada, and Chanel. The area is a hot spot for celebrity sightings, particularly during the Toronto International Film Festival every September. Nearby attractions include the Royal Ontario Museum (six-minute walk) and, for sights farther out, Bay Station (line 2) is just a three-minute walk. Dundas Square in downtown Toronto is 15 minutes away via public transit, while Harbourfront Centre and the CN Tower will take about a half hour. Union Station is under 20 minutes away via public transit, and guests can get to Pearson International Airport in an hour via public transit or a half hour by car. Valet parking is available, but it costs a nightly fee.

Rooms

Huge, sophisticated rooms with modern amenities and luxurious bathrooms

Guest rooms are expansive with sophisticated, contemporary decor in neutral tones and modern amenities. Even entry-level Deluxe Rooms feel like upgrade suites with nine-foot ceilings and a whopping 575 square feet of space. Luxurious green granite bathrooms feature heated floors, plus separate deep-soaking tubs and glass-walled rainfall showers. Walk-in dressing rooms have full-length mirrors and measure 80 square feet. Decor is pretty standard from room to room, but it's high-end and exceptionally maintained -- beige walls and headboards, long wood desks, enlarged framed prints, oversized armchairs, and granite-topped bedside tables are standard.

Rooms include 47-inch HDTVs with DVD players, laptop charging safes, Philips Audio and Docking Stations, and free Wi-Fi. They also have minibars and Nespresso coffeemakers. Bathrooms have hairdryers, robes, and high-end L'Occitane individual toiletries. Rooms either have one king or two queen-sized beds with Serta pillow-top mattresses. Suites, which come in at up to 1,860 square feet, might add separate dining, lounge, or sitting areas and extra amenities. All rooms and suites either have a Juliet balcony or a balcony with a sitting area.

Features

Five-star amenities include a trendy restaurant, classy bar, and full-service spa

The hotel has all the perks and amenities guests expect from a luxury establishment. In addition to a classy lobby bar, the hotel is host to the trendy ONE Restaurant, associated with celeb chef Mark McEwan and well-regarded in its own right. It serves up French and Italian dishes and is open early until late, for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. In addition to a chic main dining room, the restaurant has a patio for outdoor dining and two private dining rooms. Breakfasts are cooked-to-order, but are not included in room rates. Room service is available 24 hours.

The hotel also has a chic, modern spa, open to hotel guests and locals alike, featuring changing rooms, lounges, a steam room, a 24-hour fitness center, and a saltwater lap pool in addition to treatment rooms (singles and couples rooms are available) for facials, massages, and waxing. The fitness center isn't quite as luxurious as the rest of the spa, but includes modern equipment like treadmills and ellipticals with individual screens. The indoor saltwater pool is the real standout -- while it's not large, it's certainly luxe: The room is made from floor-to-ceiling marble, and the pool itself has a beautiful mosaic-tiled bottom.

In addition to the two private dining rooms, the hotel has other meeting and event rooms, including a stylish private theater, which seats 25 and has hosted VIP screenings during the Toronto Film Festival. There's also a small business corner with a computer and printer for guest use and Wi-Fi throughout the property is free.

The hotel is kid friendly, offering cribs or arranging childcare. Pets are even luckier -- dogs get pet beds, water dishes, treats, and walking, grooming, or sitting can be arranged -- but the pet fee is hefty. Service is exceptional: If a guest wants it, the staff or concierge are bound to make it happen. Currency conversion, an on-call doctor, car detailing, airport transfers, and dry cleaning and laundry service are some of the services offered. The hotel has valet parking (extra fee) and a Tesla-charging station.
