Oyster Review Summary

Photos and Review by Oyster.com Investigators

Pros

  • Rooms have comfortable four-poster beds and fireplaces
  • Cozy public areas, including a sitting area with huge windows and a wrap-around porch
  • Excellent home-cooked meals and wine selection
  • Super secluded location on a side road, surrounded by a forest
  • Fully stocked honor bar
  • Some bathrooms are spacious with large Jacuzzi tubs
  • Free Wi-Fi throughout

Cons

  • Remote location can sometimes feel too remote
  • Innkeepers swap home-cooked meals with resort restaurant vouchers during low occupancy
  • Small rooms, with low ceilings and no TVs
  • Some bathrooms have shower/tub combos
  • A long drive from any major airports

Bottom Line

There's rural Vermont, and then there's seriously rural Vermont: The Fox Creek Inn's location falls into the latter category. Room decor varies drastically, but all rooms are cozy (in that slightly cottage-kitschy way that only B&Bs can pull off) with comfortable four-poster beds, working fireplaces and lots of natural light. Public spaces, such as the dining room, reading room, and wrap-around porch are inviting, which is good because there's not much to see or do within a short driving distance, besides skiing at Killington Mountain Resort. This type of B&B is best suited for couples looking to truly seclude themselves for a weekend.

Oyster Hotel Review

 Location

On a secluded dead-end side road, surrounded by trees

The Fox Creek Inn is in Chittenden, a sleepy, rural area of Vermont not too far from Rutland and Killington. It's not exactly the area to come to for excitement, but that's usually the point. There are a few restaurants that line Route 4, but most excursions require driving to Rutland. It's not the type of place for someone who needs constant excitement, but it's perfect for anyone (especially couples) who want to hole up for a weekend without any hustle or bustle.

  • 1-hour-52-minute drive to Burlington International Airport
  • 20-minute drive to downtown Rutland's shops and restaurants
  • 28-minute drive to Green Mountain Golf Course
  • 35-minute drive to Killington Mountain Resort
  • 35-minute drive to Killington Golf Course
  • 1-hour drive to Quechee Gorge, with nearby shops, antique stores, and restaurants
  • 1-hour-32-minute drive to Shelburne Museum
  • 1-hour-32-minute drive to outlet shopping in Barre
  • 1-hour-34-minute drive to cheese tasting at Cabot Creamery
