Vermont is one of New England's most picturesque gems, with small beach towns, rugged outdoor scenery, and great places to cozy up in with a good book. So put the kettle on the stove, grab your next read off the shelf, and come explore the best nooks and crannies in Maine! Castle Hill Resort and Spa offers old-world charm that is all about the details -- from the historic wood-paneled walls to the library filled with old books. The Clay Brook is an upscale slopeside property just outside Sugarbush Village. It has 61 large units that range from studios to five-bedroom suites, all featuring fireplaces, balconies, plush beds, and elegant rustic decor with wood and leather accents, which go great with a good book. Stowe Mountain Lodge is one of the top luxury properties in Vermont, and offers rustic elegance throughout -- including in the impressive lobby with floor-to-ceiling windows and great reading nooks. The Inn at Ormsby Hill is a quintessential historic B&B. Guests come to know the innkeepers -- who make a delicious free breakfast -- by name over the course of a peaceful stay. There are no extra amenities, but there is a lovely common area where guests can relax and read. This historic property has seen some pretty famous folks pass through its doors in the past -- Presidents Roosevelt, Coolidge, Wilson, and Eisenhower, as well as several famous artists, all visited this lovely B & B. The property still has a relaxing vibe -- the 16 unique rooms are decorated in an old-world style, the quiet library is an inviting place to relax, and the manicured grounds and surrounding serene woods help create a peaceful atmosphere. You might even find some cuties to snuggle with! The historic Swift House Inn is located within walking distance of downtown Middlebury. The house even has cozy common areas for guests to kick back in with a good read. The 19-room Rabbit Hill Inn combines the peaceful atmosphere of Northern Vermont with an elegant B&B experience. The clean, spacious rooms are more "L.L. Bean cozy" than "Manhattan chic," and each is individually decorated. Outstanding features in some of the rooms include wood-burning fireplaces and soaking tubs for two. All essential B&B elements -- antiques, comfy beds, a cat (named Reese), and plenty of quiet spaces for reading, including the hotel's own reading corner! The historic Norwich Inn -- where President James Monroe and Dr. Seuss have both stayed -- is a quaint, well-maintained inn with just 38 rooms. Rooms have a cozy New England feel, with floral wallpaper, Victorian antiques, and exposed brick, making it the perfect library-away-from-home. The Inn at the Round Barn Farm has a serene location with more than 245 acres of rolling green hills in every direction. It has a decidedly romantic ambiance, with rooms that have Jacuzzi tubs and/or working fireplaces. But if you're curling up with a romance novel, the Game Room has a pleasant reading nook in the corner with books. This 96-room lodge has become a destination unto itself, not just for its excellent amenities and impressive views, but for its rich history. The charming property is still run by the famous Trapp family, whose story was told in the movie The Sound of Music, and original memorabilia from past generations is displayed everywhere. The lodge even has a lovely library with sitting areas. From the outside the Pitcher Inn might appear like a typical New England B&B, but once inside, the quality and character of this property is revealed. All 11 rooms and suites are individually decorated according to a different theme -- such as mountain, ski, or trout -- and feature knickknacks and antiques that are unique to Vermont. Best of all, there are plenty of places to catch up on a good read throughout the entire property and in the common areas. Grandma's house -- we mean, the Vermont Inn -- is a historic, family-run property in tiny Mendon, located halfway between Killington Ski Resort and Rutland. It has classic New England decor throughout and an overall cozy feel, and great nooks for catching up on your books. This historic inn is a popular choice for weddings due to its picturesque location in Grafton and reputation for delicious food. The 45 rooms are spread throughout the Main Tavern and four guesthouses, all clustered in the same are, and great, cozy places for reading. The West Hill House is a cozy and homey bed-and-breakfast escape. There is even a lovely library on-site library.
