State Plaza Hotel

Scene

Cozy boutique hotel with Art Deco touches

Built in 1955 as an apartment building to house State Department employees, State Plaza Hotel has a blocky exterior and two entrances -- one on E Street and one of F Street. Each entrance leads to an inviting boutique-style lobby with modern tufted chairs, gray and silver decor, and Art Deco-inspired accents. The nine-story building also has the cozy Garden Cafe with an American menu, and a courtyard on the first floor.

The hotel is especially popular among business travelers on extended stays and performers in traveling shows at the nearby Kennedy Center. Nearly every suite comes with a kitchen -- a throwback to the hotel’s past life as an apartment complex.
