Bottom Line

The 108-unit upscale Wildness on the Lake is the quietest, most removed property of the Wilderness Resort, a complex of three hotels, with multiple indoor and outdoor water parks, mini-golf, laser tag, zip lines, go-carts, arcades, and much more to keep families with children very busy. Set across Lake Delton from the main resort, Wilderness on the Lake is slightly more subdued than its sister properties, but still has its own indoor/outdoor water park, infinity pool, and private beach. Made up of two- and three-bedroom condos with cabin-chic decor and full kitchens, the Wilderness on the Lake offers a spacious yet cozy place to relax between water parks and other adventures.

Wilderness on the Lake

Scene

A peaceful rustic log cabin atmosphere in kids-are-king resort

The Wilderness Resort is something close to a child's dream, with multiple indoor/outdoor water parks, plus go-carts, arcades, zip lines, mini-golf, laser tag -- the list goes on. A kid-centric facility, the Wilderness on the Lake property is nonetheless able to maintain a calmer, quieter air than the other properties on the resort. Its rustic log cabin aesthetic is carried out to the extreme -- everything is red, green, or brown, and there are wood benches and chairs at every turn. Even the sconces have deer antlers. Still, it remains tasteful, if emphatic in its theme. There's a private lakeside beach, with picnic tables tucked away under trees, and grills and fire pits on a first-come-first-serve basis.

Location

Set apart from the other hotels, five minutes away from downtown

The Wilderness Resort is set off of one of the area's main highways, so it's easy to find and only about five to 10 minutes away from downtown Wisconsin Dells. Wilderness on the Lake is removed from the other resorts, and therefore feels a bit more remote and natural, with a nice lakeside location. It's only a five-minute drive back to the main property, the Wilderness Hotel, but the resort also runs a shuttle bus around the complex, stopping at the main resort, water parks, restaurants, and the golf course clubhouse.

Rooms

Large two- and three-bedrooms condos with kitchens and whirlpools

Wilderness on the Lake's two- and three-bedroom condos offer privacy, space, and comfort. The condos, like the common spaces, celebrate a natural aesthetic with rustic wood touches on the headboards and bedside lamps. The spaces aren't modern -- especially not the patterned, motel-quality bedspreads -- but they're large and home-like. Condos come with full kitchens -- each including a four-burner stove, oven, full-size refrigerator, microwave, dishwasher, and seating for at least six. Couches and chairs in browns and burnt reds make up the living room, while the sun room has cushioned rocking chairs in muted grays, and a whirlpool tub. Bathrooms, decorated with loud wallpaper, are extra large and clean, and come with hotel branded soaps and stall showers.

Features

A full-service amusement park, with gym, spa, shopping, and golf for adults

In addition to the extensive water parks and other kid-friendly amusements, the Wilderness on the Lake has a small business center with printers, a mediocre gym facility with mix of cardio machines and two weight machines, and several boutiques, supermarkets, and general stores. There's also a spa on the complex across the lake where adults can have beauty and body treatments, and relax amidst the terraces and waterfalls. The golf course is another big draw for guests. There is no restaurant at Wilderness on the Lake itself, but there is a small cafe with Starbucks coffee. Wi-Fi is free throughout.
